No he didnt surpass Sams record persay. True he may have won more races but you see Sam did it with half the EQ that Kyle has.I was tooling around the tracks with Sam back in the day and when we bent we fixed it, try working all nite then driving like all get out to get to the next race then crawl in and run a couple hundred laps on dirt with no power steering and no cool suit. Then climb out pack up and head to the next one, all the while maintaining the car in motel parking lots or a friends shop or service station.Thats what makes a true winner like Sam,not crawl into your motorhome and get showered and relax while a crew does everything including cleaning your drivers gloves, I was going to say something else there but chickened out,but you get the message.Sam is still the hero here so dont let him forget it for one minute you hear!!!!

Thanks,Johnny. Jo and I were talking about that same thing tonight. It was much different when Sam raced. He not only drove the race car, he built it, he hauled it to the tracks, and worked on it like you said. He knew his race cars which was why he set a record hard to beat. In our opinion he is and always will be a true hero whose true record is unbeatable!! Johnny Mallonee said:

You two are so right---when Kyle Bushes record gets honored here on Racers reunion he will have earned it----Sam earned his the hard way,the same way Jeff gilder won his or Billy Bisco.. You see these people did it with a flair no one today can touch--NO ONE!!! So Tell Sam his record is safe here on Racers Reunion because we know a true hero when we find one and Sam is the Man. We didnt fuss over something trivial as the thickness of a quarter as the latest test of the new Brian Factor. Nuff said

To compare what Kyle Busch has done with what Sam Ard did is simply not possible. Kyle won the races he won in a multi-million dollar financed team, far above the finances of any other team in Nationwide, having never touched one part of the car but the steering wheel. He never stayed up late working on it and he didn't tow it to the track. Granted, Kyle did achieve a lot with the win yesterday, but until he can be the man Sam Ard is, all Kyle Busch represents is dollars winning races. Sam was, is, and for a very long time to come, the justified hero to hundreds of thousands of fans who recall those days. Thank you Sam Ard.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

We cannot take away from Kyle knocking the door down but there is no comparision of the Sportsman/GN Series to what is now a feeder series for Cup drivers. My Grand National memory stops right around the time Mark Martin was wearing out the series and even he did not run for the title. What used to be the Sportsman Series stood on it's own merit but Nascar's management technique or lack there of has allowed the division to be watered down to where I do not even care to watch a NNS race.Surely Kyle knows that he has not accomplished anything untill it is done on the CUP level and even that series is watered down.

Tim says it for me. Maybe Kyle can jet from race to race and climb in cars and go out and drive, but Kyle will NEVER fill Sam Ard's shoes. Kyle can also climb out of a race car, run to the hauler or motorhome pouting if he didn't win and be shuttled to the next venue. Sam and others like him didn't have those options and this makes it impossible to compare the two drivers. If Busch wrecks a car, he climbs out and leaves. Sam fixed it and went out for more or fixed it so it could get on the trailer. Different times that's for sure.I've seen many drivers back in the day working on their race cars including watching a very upset A.J Foyt finally pulling into the pits at Michigan with his Indycar, pushing the crew out of the way and turning the wrenches while the crew watched from behind the wall. Talk about a loud cheer from the crowd. These guys knew their cars inside out. Tim Leeming said:

After watching the race, Jo and Sam talked about Kyle's win. Sam said that Kyle was a great driver, reminded him of the way he (Sam) raced. He was out there with one thing on his mind, TO WIN! He would win many more races and for us to congratulate Kyle for him. That is why I posted this forum. We appreciate all the good comments about Sam. He will always be our hero but as you said, it is a different time. Diane Lovett said:
