1978 Henley Gray - Petty connection? Need some assistance

Stock Car Racing History

Chase, I think you are correct with the first pic being taken at Bristol. I have a blurry image of this car at a night race. Bristol's first event under the lights was in August of 1978.

The blue and yellow Chevy was the car that Woody ran three times early in 1978. I will guess that Woody could not make the Dover race and Elmo start and parked it

Richard needed a car for Bristol as they had not yet built a stable of Chevy's so he gave a call to Henley. PE did a quick paint and went to Bristol.

Speaking of Elmo, he had stopped driving but still had his license so Henley put him in it for the payday.

I did some research on Racing Reference.and discovered a sub culture of midpackers. Henley Gray had eight different drivers in his cars in 1978.
Back then with a little experience you could run a Grand National event. People like Henley Gray, Junie and others gave many drivers a shot

Bruton Says 70% Sure He'll Move Fall Charlotte Race to Las Vegas

Current NASCAR

If Concorde did not meet contractual obligations then so be it

Funny how Smith says that Vegas has been talking to him, he owns the joint !

Amazing how some want something and thinks that others should pay for it. This is not new as profressional sports teams look for the dole to keep their margins.

Sink or swim.

Stock Car Racing History

Just get rid of it all together. Give the teams a week offSo go to another place and see more contrived fabricated entermainment. That is pretty much what happens on a weekly basis anyhow

The gray area .....Matt used it at the presser in that he is a former champion. Tont Stewart used it last year when he ranted as NASCAR did nothing to him. The gray area is working within the limits of. what is considered acceptable or what one can get away with.

The gray area is fluid with no defined borders as a matter of negotiation. Matt. threw some bs stating that one rod was heavy but worked it knowing that the hammer already dropped.

Johnny, I specialise in the gray areas but with NASCAR it is black and white. No wiggle room...

Tim, I think that Matt gave a great.interview. I do.not see a fine coming his way. I also think that the penalties are severe but if you run a motor that is not right the hammer will drop. It looks like the appeals process has softened coinciding with NASCAR's stringent rules package implemented with the COT introduction several years ago.

These guys know what they are doing. But I think it was a mistake. It would not surprise me of there is a erfnce advantage by having different rod or piston weighting. Regardless, TRD blew it big time.
