Does anyone have any thoughts regarding the Kyle Busch/David Reutimann incident & the potential impact on the final outcome of the 10-race "Chase" race? Should one incident in one racehave a potential impact on a season-long championship?

Its a Chase thing, only in the new format of a ten race ending would it create this. Otherwise it would be wait until next week-----------------oh wait we may still see that, next week ---imagine that payback otherwise survival of the fittest.

Kyle handled that pretty good. He has matured quite abit in the last year. Reuti blew it and he knows it. You could see his expression during the interview after it was over. There will be no pay back.

Thanks, PattyKay, for your response. You and I have many of the same opinions. I, too, would rather see NASCAR racing the way it used to be...............but the reason for my question was to see if others consider the "Chase" to be as much of a joke as I do. The incident between Kyle & David just emphasizes the phoniness of a 10-race "playoff" to determine the season Champion. As you said, Kevin Harvick should legitimately be leading the standings at this point of the season. The Kyle/David incident would have been just one of those occurances in one race............but now it is being blown all out of proportion because of its potential implications on the season championship. When you boil the season championship down to performance in 10 races, everything gets a lot more concentrated..........and every occurance carries a lot more weight than it should. As I said, it just magnifies the ludicrousness of the whole picture. And I especially like the way you described NASCAR's brand of racing as no longer a big deal..........you are so right. In my opinion, there's no way that any "Chase champion" will ever compare to those drivers who won Championships legitimately.

Only in the current format would this even be talked about. Hey, think that is one of the reasons they came up with this silly format. Just something for the media to hype.

What difference would it make if a driver is near the point lead gets knocked out by another driver whether it is in this format or not ?This has nothing to do with the Chase but is about somebody getting wrecked. We all know that the Chase blows but think about it.

One question: If the season championship is going to be determined by the performance of 12 drivers/race cars, then why does NASCAR allow all those other cars on the track??? That kind of makes it a crap shoot, doesn't it? In that format, how much credibility does the season "champion" really have? More than one question, sorry about that.

Ernest, of course this has been the knock with the Chase since it's beginning. It is really just a short season with a short field. Obviously they created this to tighten things up to boost ratings but circumstances regardless of the system is what determines the outcome. How often can we expect a close battle for the title as in what happened to end the 1992 season ?

In addition there is no real difference with 13th place on back regardless of the format since it is the same for everyone at the beginning of the season. What the Chase does expose is that the top teams get a fist full of mulligans during mid to late summer. For instance, Jimmie Johnson won a bunch of races and knows he is going to get a high seed and without the Chase he would have no chance but here he is again leading the points. I stated previously on this forum that the 48 team purposely used a mulligan last year at the second Michigan race when JJ ran out of gas after leading over 130 laps. The season was over that very day long before the Chase started as Johnson finished in 33rd place. Would Chad let the 48 run out of fuel that without the Chase format ? I doubt it.

Nascar does not want a one race winner taking the trophy nor do they want somebody walking away with it by a large margin. So here it is and it is flawed.

The sanctioning body has been tweeking the system top to bottom but real racing fans and there are many right here, know what is up. Credibility has been lost in recent years as Nascar has fundamentaly changed the sport from top to bottom.

The mainstream medai says that Cup racing is better than ever and is extremely competitive. The statistics show that but when is the last time we have seen a photo finish, the bump and grind at Darlington or Bristol or a last lap pass for the win ?

It starts with the cars. They need to take the AERO out of them and we just me see some real racing that would make up for flaws with the point system what ever it may be.

When it's been a season long problem ,yes. If you can't take it , don't dish it out.
