Wendell Scott

If you haven't seen it already, take a minute to read the great article written by Rick Houston on the NASCAR.com homepage. NASCAR has always ignored this man unless it suited their "diversity" program....Interested to see how the docudrama turns out. Wendell is an awesome part of NASCAR History but, as you state Don, ONLY when it suits NASCAR's purposes. I was fortunate enough to have had many encounters with Wendell back in the day, always very pleasant. Now that I have gotten to know Mary (somewhat) and Sybil quite well, it is even more important to me that Wendell is remembered in the way he should be, as a true pioneer and hero of the sport.

This an awesome article about Wendell Scott. Thanks for posting! I watched the movie "Greased Lightening" which was based on the true story of Wendell Scott just yesterday. Jan

Wendell Scott: A Race Storywill air on ESPN on Feb. 20 at 9 p.m. ET, after the scheduled running of the 53rd annual Daytona 500.

Imagine! I have a rock in my Lair here with "Image" engraved into it. Don't remember where I bought it but I bought it because I believe you can imagine things and, with enough work, make them happen. On my desk here in front of me is an 8 inch worrd carving simply stating "Dream" because I believe that in dreaming you obtain goals to achieve. Wendell enbodied those two ideals. I encountered Wendell many times during his career,mostly because he was usually aside from the other drivers and was easy to approach and talk with. Funny thing was I never considered he was a "black man", he was just a race driver to me. And a pretty good one at that.

you are right tim i did not think of wendell as a black man just a race driver.just wish he was alive to see just how much the races fanes thought of him, not thenew fans they don't know a race driver when they see one.
