Don Smyle looking for some info

Stock Car Racing History

Note; Curtis Turner won the 1965 Charlotte ARCA race driving the #2, not the #13...So still trying to figure this out...

Stock Car Racing History

In looking at the credential it looks like a Permatex late model race.

Darlington Raceway Radio Network by Don Smyle

Stock Car Racing History

Perry..Thanks for the observations. I will go back through my notes. However, Frank Jenny told me in person that Universal did take over the Darlington Race broadcasts for several years as "Universal Darlington" Raceway Network, in conjunction with the Universal broadcasts of other race events. As mentioned, I have more of the story i have yet to post..stay tuned.

Sun Drop Grand National Cup?

General

OK, Question: I recently purchased a pennant that has "Sun Drop Grand National Cup" on it along with the old NASCAR logo from the early 70's, as well as the tracks Darlington, Martinsville, Rockingham, N. Wilkesboro, Charlotte, and Hickory on it...Anybody know the story behind this? I have seen some photos with drivers with qualifying trophies that have Sun Drop on it..Was this some sort of qualifying award for those specific tracks???

I have had an obsession with collecting these pins. I have a complete set from 1948, Mechanic, owner, driver and member. I have one from every year 1948-1965 (when they stopped making the dated ones and went to the generic without dates)...The only year i am missing is 1949??? haven't been able to find one anywhere. Have over 75 of these pins...I contacted the original company that created them and they don't have a list of what years, how many or how many styles for each year. So, every time i find a new one it's another piece of the puzzle. It's amazing how many different styles were created for each year, as well as the different colors. If i get a chance I will post a photo of some of them....

New Oldschool race site

General

Hey everyone...I have been working diligently for the past two months on a new site that launched yesterday...It's not intended to compete with any other sites or be the source of deep archival information, but if you like old school racing and old school diecast you will likely enjoy this site. Also a great fan forum section... http://universityofracing.com/

If you haven't seen it already, take a minute to read the great article written by Rick Houston on the NASCAR.com homepage. NASCAR has always ignored this man unless it suited their "diversity" program....Interested to see how the docudrama turns out. Those types of films always concern me....BTW, the lead photo on the home page is from the Smyle Media archive. Shot by veteran NASCAR photographer Jerry Overman.
