No Smokey Yunick? No thanks.
Congratulations to each and everyone on this list including Rex White. Just wondering...how does one get on the nominating committee?
And no disrespect to Rex White. TOTALLY deserving of being nominated AND selected to the Hall. But when people like Robert Yates and Junie Donlavey and Smokey are being passed over year after year, then there is something inherently wrong with the selection process.
Okay here I go again. Over 60 years of NASCAR and only 5 per year! What a "JOKE"! How about other divisions, owners, crewmen, sponsors, track owners, writers/photographers, announcers etc. And, there are too many on the HoF Committee that don't know sh-- from shinola about the history of NASCAR.
Alright, my first meeting with Rex White was in 1956 at Glen Burnie Speedway on a closed drive-in theater in Maryland, South of Baltimore. Lou Johnson was late to drive No. 40 Modified. Rex was begging the owners to drive the car. They refused. Then just four years later he was the NASCAR Champion. Yes, Rex you are a Hall of Famer!
Just to add to the story, I was there with Glenn Guthrie, later the 1959 Modified Champion, he flipped in turn four and hit another car. The other car came flying into the pits (no infield guard rails back then) and almost hit Rex. One bad night all around.
What do you think that HoFamers should be out of racing for at least 10 years, so more ole timers can get in? What are your thoughts or opinion?
Bit congrats to Rex! Well deserved!
I may waffle some - and someone might convince me to modify my list. But with the 25 noms we have, I think my early choices for 2014 will be:
For consideration in 2015-2017 range:2015-2017 range
Much, MUCH Longer
The more I look at my list, the more I'm convinced Curtis and Bruton should be included in the same class. Would be appropriate especially with the ceremony held in Charlotte. Would be verrrry interesting to see how Bruton might address Curtis - particularly if they were recognized on the same night.
Yes Sir, a sincere congratulations to Rex. Congratulations for most of the others on the list as well. I certainly agree with JAck, and we have talked this to death, five a year is ridiculous. We have too many deserving folks who belong there. I will not address the issue of D.W. and Rusty already being in, nor will I address the two Frances famiy members being included as relevant. The Frances should have a special recognition other than in the Hall Of Fame. And as for Anne France, I understand she was a nice lady and contributed much to keeping NASCAR going behind the scenes, but really? Hall of Fame? I think Dale Jarrett is first class but why is he on this list? Far too early, just like D.W. and Rusty. Oh well, I'm not going to get started on this and I probably will not mention it again until NASCAR realizes that FIVE a year should be criminal, just like TEN races to decide a season champion should be criminal.
Congrats to Rex on being nominated. My list for the most part would differ widely (and maybe wildly, some would say) from NASCAR's (see Ray Hendrick - probably the winningest driver in the history of NASCAR still not being nominated) and I'd have to put Enoch Staley and Paul Sawyer, as well as the already nominated Clay Earles ahead of Bruton as pioneers, but Rex is certainly deserving to be honored.
I think we need a ladies HOF---Mrs <Glen> Bernece Wood--Louise Smith--Mrs Lee Petty--Mrs Richard Petty
Could name a lot more. Where there a good Nascar Man there a good women helping him.
Just my idear--------What yall think?????
Thanks

Leaving Ray Hendrick out of the HOF is like leaving God out the Bible....
Thanks---Harlow Reynolds--Lynchburg,Va.
Like I said Harlow, therewere other divisions that also help make NASCAR.
Ray was a great racer and deserves to be in the HoF. Man, didRay and
Sonny Hutchins put on some wild racing shows.
Rex Still has that helmet..
Thanks----- Harlow Reynolds--Lynchburg,Va.
I tend to agree that 5 a year is too few. Congrats to our buddy Rex. He spends most of the year, and most of it without getting paid I may add, to help preserve the history of our sport. We could allname 50 who deserve to be in the Hall.Rex is the oldest livingNASCAR champion. Take a second to read his statistics. The man was amazing! I wish we could have a couple of dozen entries each year. I think we should honor these folks while they can still be with us and enjoy the fruits of all the sacrifices they have given. The Chief and Ray Hendrick definitely deserve to be in but also more fabricators and engine builders and the folks whose genius made the sport what it is. Even guys like T. Taylor Warren and David Chobatgave us many years of pleasure with their photography. Everyone has their favorites and there is not an easy answer for this. Include all of those who deserve the honor, but honor those who can still be with us to enjoy it.
If I were a voter, T.Taylor would have my vote in the time it took me to mark my ballot.
