Get well Little Bud. I want you to be with us at my reunion in October. Charlie Craig
We have rescheduled for Saturday October 17th. We have 100 % chance of rain here and we would have to pay for several services even if the show did not go on as planned . Hope more of the racing family will be able to be with us on the 17th. See you then. Charlie 704-651-1695 b17craig@carolina.rr.com
Andy was the one who could have made it happen. Sad it came out this way. I was hoping he would pull it off and show the big guys that the fans still wanted the Rock and North Wilkesboro...Andy Hillenburg is the BEST.
Yea Johnny, we also lost Harold Russell from Gastonia this week. He had dozens of movie rental cars and would always bring the police cars and golf carts for my cruise in and racing reunion. Would give you the shirt off his back. He loved to share his collection with his friends and was very humble and loved his buddies..He was big in the Hornets Nest car club who help organize Auto Fair. Harold was the best just like Jim. I will miss both of them.
Dub Simpson and I made a day of visiting a couple weeks ago and stopped to see Jim and Walter Ballard. Jim had moved to the upper end of his buildings with his carlot and was in good spirits. I go all the way back to Robinwood knowing Jim and Tommy. Jim always came to my cruise in and racing reunion every year. He has been a good friend all these years and would call from time to time to see who I had heard from. He would talk of his racing career and would light up telling the real true stories thatnow days are not "politically correct". A true character. Jim was one of theindependent drivers who proved what he could do with talent and hard work and luck. He was a good dirt track driver when I was coming up. He really showed what he could do on asphalt super speedways .He was fearless. He always took time to stop and talk to me when I was a kid and was a friend who always was glad to see me and hear from me. I will miss his phone conversations and hearing the way it really was from the" horses mouth". R.I.P. my friend.

Rex, we missed you yesterday at my cruise in. It is the first one that you have missed. We are so proud of you. Hope to have you with us next year. You are finally getting the credit you deserve after all this time. I have never met anyone with more passion for racing than you. You are the best ambassador that NASCAR could ever wish for. I hope they realize what you have done for them all these years.I'llcall you when you are able to slow down and catchyour breath. Donna and I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you soon. You need to tell the story you told me about driving the car Chevrolet gave you to buildinto a racer from Detroit!! to Spartanburg!!! Much love, Charlie Craig
The crash site of 1974 is about 10 miles from my house. I was working in Belmont at a body shop that morning. I'll never forget the convoy of ambulances that came down Wilkinson Blvd. to go to the site behind the airport. Don Gardner's shop is down near thecrash scene closeto where the Police and Fire traning center is now. He told me his dad brought out some of the injured on the hood of his Ford farm tractor. If I remember correctly, the cause of a lot of the fatalities and burns were from the polyester clothing of the day being so flamable.
