The very first NASCAR race was a 150 mile event held on the new 2.2 mile beach and road course just south of Daytona Beach called the Rayson Memorial on Feb. 15, 1948. A last minute entry was a yellow '39 Ford Coupe #22-A with J.F Fricks listed as the driver. The car started the race but finished with another driver behind the wheel. Who took over the ride to earn a 3rd place finish and what was the real name of J.F. Fricks?

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

Was it Raymond Parks? And Fonty Flock taking over?

That is almost right Robert. J.F. Fricks turned out to be Raymond Parks but it was brother Bob Flock that took over and finished 3rd to Red Byron in another Parks Ford and Marshall Teague 2nd.

Dang ya'll beat me to it! As I was typing my response....good ol' Dawsonville internet froze and shut down! Anyway, this was Raymond's second and last race as a driver. First was Langhorne Penn. in the summer of 1947. It was basically the same deal - He decided to take three cars, instead of two. A yellow #22-A was for Raymond, or J.F Fricks. Raymond just couldn't sleep the night before, he was too nervous. Towards the end of the race, Raymond got flashbacks from his moonshining days and took the lead! With just a handful of laps to go, Bob Flock's #14 had rear-end troubles and Parks relinquished his ride to Flock.
