Marion Cox Drivers
It would be hard to find a car builder/owner who had more Hall of Fame caliber drivers than Marion Cox. I know that Cox had more drivers who won local track championships than we have listed, but we listed all we knew of. Cox was one of the best there was and the most respected man in auto racing.
One driver to win three Track Championshipsin one year, is Billy Scott from Union, S C.. In 1967,Billy won Savannah, Charleston and, Starlite Speedways while working 12 hour days in a Milliken Plant. Had a very good year which guaranteed him a spot in the Daytona500 in 1968. It was an very memorable experience driving for such a racingIcon as Marion Cox!!!!
Although Ray Hendrick has always been my hero driver, I am unaware of any national title attained by Ray, though one year he lost the NASCAR Modified title in the season's final race at Atlanta. Also, Norfolk's Joe Weatherly won national titles in both NASCAR Modified and Grand National, as well as AMA motorcycles, a feat unmatched.
