Red Gilliland & Bobby Lee

In the beginning of Sumter Speedway, there was a two-car team made up of Red Gilliland (66) and Robert E. (Bobby) Lee (21). Gilliland, who was stationed at nearby Shaw Air Force Base had some racing experience in his native state of Arizona before coming to Shaw, and was the driver to beat. Lee led the point standing for the 1957 season until the last race when Charlton McLeod won the final race and captured the season championship.

My dad, also stationed at Shaw, helped occasionally with these cars. I remember getting to "drive" the 66 car while it was being pushed by the guys. I was 3 years old. THANKS FOR THE PICTURE.
