When I was Manager of Wrangler NASCAR Special Events, the first race we ever sponsored was the September 1981 Wrangler Sanfor-Set 400 NASCAR Winston Cup race at Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway. The event program cover featured our driver, Dale Earnhardt lassoing good friend and mentor, Bobby Allison and engaging in a garage tug of war. Sanfor-Set was an ammonia chemical process used to prevent denim from wrinkling. The owner of the process, Cluett-Peabody and The Sanforized Company gave Wrangler the $40,000 to sponsor the race.
