It could be Isaac in the #9 and it could also be Bobby Webb.

Dennis - Any idea what year this photo was taken ?I notice that the #6 is also an Earnhardt Special car. I wonder if that was Ralph driving it as he also raced a #6 in addition to the #8.

Jack, All I can tell you is that it is sometime between 1955 and 1961. As you noted both the #6 and the #8 have Earnhardt Special on the hoodand another picture confirmsBurhead Nantz in the #8. I asked Dink Widenhouse about Burhead and he confirmed that he drove for Ralph but I did not ask if he remembered the dates. This picture was taken during a daytime race, since Rockingham had lights they ran mostly on Saturday night except early in the year and the last few races of the year on Sunday afternoon (people in the stands are wearing coats). Dad told me that most of the time Ralph sent his cars to different tracks and did not run against each other, Burhead is the one that came to Rockingham the most as he did real well there. This must have been a big money race for more than one Earnhardt car to be at the same race and Rockingham was not a Nascar track. I know this does not answer your question but maybe it will help.

Thanks Dennis - Do you think there is any big race results from the early years at the Rockingham Dirt Track? This looks like it would have been a great race to have results from. Ray Tilley driving out of Myrtle Beach at the time told me he won a race there in 1955, or 56 driving the #39. When Tilley got out of the Air Force he when back home up north, and won a lot of races, and was later inducted into the Sprint Car Hall of Fame. Tilley's son is a member of RR here.

Reviewing news clippings sent to me by Jack Walker reveals the driver of the #6 coach to be Bob Seymore from Wadesboro. Bob drove this car early in the 1957 season at Rockingham and Wadesboro speedways. He would later that year drive a #38 coupe. #9 is Rockingham's Bobby Webb, #87 is Ken Klutz from Salisbury and #24 is Bill Moon from Asheboro. I haven't found out who is in the #51.
