August 6, 1978: The end of an era and rise of an underdog

Stock Car Racing History

I know The Legend will have a special place in his heart for Lennie Pond for beating Jaws to the 1973 (?) Rookie of the Year award. :) Jaws mouthed off to a NASCAR official, Len Kuchler and learnt the hard way that you don't 'diss' NASCAR and come off the winner.

Turning for Home: Today's Junior Johnson

Stock Car Racing History

One of those really long articles that you wish was longer still.

I understand Robert quit racing to focus on his education. Wonder if he ever plans to be back?

A Historic Night for NASCAR - July 24, 2013

Current NASCAR

It was a great event. I have to give kudos to NASCAR for being open to doing it. They are obviously listening to the traditional fans with all the recent undoings of unpopular decisions from the past decade. Unfortunately, some decisions like the oversaturation of the schedule with big, boring aero tracks will be harder to undo but I hope they keep listening to the fans and Carl Edwards.

That old Glen layout (before the boot section was added) was pretty similar to the current Cup layout up to the carousel but after that you had a couple of fast bends leading into the final corner that is today's first corner.

Here's an onboard lap driven in the excellent 1967 F1 simulator Grand Prix Legends.

I didn't know about this track either. Can certainly imagine the size of dust clouds kicked up at such an unconventionally big dirt track.

Once again, amazed at the amount of post-article information and pictures. :D
