Tempers, Suspensions and Losing Driving Championships

Stock Car Racing History

The race this footage originated from was aired on USA Network. TBS covered the Cup race that weekend at Rockingham, but they used USA to air the Grand National race. My best guess is that it was a segment prepared from the old Motorweek Illustrated program that Dave Despain used to host on TBS on the weekends back in the 80s, thus why Bob Varsha is reporting.

LABOR DAY RACE RETURN TO DARLINGTON?

Current NASCAR

I have heard for two years Bruton wants to sell Atlanta. Given the track's incompetence (Ed Clark moving out of the finale to October, from October to a Chase date, to out of the Chase completely and on Labor Day...) it won't be long before he gives the second date to Kentucky and leaves AMS off the schedule completely. It's sad, really, because of HOW much the drivers like racing the track and the worn out surface now.

Paul Menard

Current NASCAR

I noticed his interview yesterday hadn't been brought up as of yet. Thoughts?

Personally- this was uncalled for. It's not like Steve Byrnes was asking for personal details about Paul's wife's delivery. It's also probably why a guy like Paul Menard doesn't get so much as a mention on tv most weeks, unless he's causing a caution flag.

CHEVY IMPALA OWNERS CAN RELAX

Current NASCAR

Wondering if they'll make the pace car go to the rear of the field for the 500.

December 16 - Dick Beaty

Stock Car Racing History

At some point, maybe I'll upload a Dick Beatty story or two from my Stock Car Legends Reunion video. Nascar truly misses people like him and Bill Gazaway and Harold Kinder.

1978 Dixie 500: King, Donnie, King, Donnie - Confusion reigneth!

Stock Car Racing History

In his book and the biography Al Thomy wrote about him circa 1987, it was stated the car was a one race rental from Mr. DeWitt and Benny's team. Looking at Bill's record from 1978, he only ran one race after Darlington, and that was at Charlotte in the National 500, where he blew up with a handful of laps to go. Not sure of anything beyond that- if they had issues getting the Mercury ready for Atlanta or what.

Martinsville Truck Race

Stock Car Racing History

I wonder what Budweiser/Jimmy John's feels like being put in the middle here. After all, they ARE leaving Childress to go to SHR with Harvick for 2014.
