Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks

Robert, in the pic. of the Salisbury Super Speedway the Rowan County Airport is approx. 1/2 mile to the north and slightly west of the speedway. I believe the drag strip is the dark strip just south of the speedway.

I went to my first race at Salisbury Super Speedway. It was the Grand National race in 58 and I was almost 5years old.

Former Grand National Driver Larry Hess business "Blast It All" was and may still be located on the old fairgrounds property which is where the speedway was located.

I thought it was. I think it is a coincidence too but it is still pretty neat. That on ramp is new. It was added during the widening project that just finished up. I believe the old south bound I-85 lanes ran across the 3rd turn. Too bad we did not know it was there before the widening project started.

I think everyone in our group enjoyed the day Darren. This was my second trip with the RR group and the first for my grandson. We both enjoyed the trip that was made even better by the people we shared the visit with.
