Pastor Don Moore Passed away

Stock Car Racing History

Sad News. Pastor Don Moore will celebrate his 63rd birthday Wednesday Dec. 2nd, but not with us fans here on earth. Don died in his sleep on Monday night suddenly. Last week, like every week, Don lead the mission to distribute food for the hungry in the upstate of South Carolina through his church, The Potter's House on such an important holiday as Thanksgiving.

A lot of racers would see and meet Don with t he gavel in hand at the yearly racer's auctions selling used race parts in the Carolinas.

When Don had time to play, he brought out his immaculately-prepared and painted Vintage Ford to run for inline-6 trophies. Everyone that came in contact with Don will miss his calm leadership and prayers, but I'll miss most how fun it was to run with that quick blue #72 with Preacher Don on the gas.

Prayers and peace to the Moore family.

Former racecar driver accused of making meth

Stock Car Racing History

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) -

A former racecar driver is facing several drug-related charges.

Robert Powell, 49, is charged with possession of meth, and manufacturing of meth.

Goose Creek Police say officers were called to a home along Annette Drive in November due to possible drug activity.

According to a police report, investigators collected a garbage can by the house, which was set by the curb for pick-up. Investigators informed the Drug Enforcement Agency, which noted it found many meth-making materials in the can, including empty containers of drain cleaner, batteries and cold medicine. Agents say many syringes were found, including one that tested positive for meth.

Powell and another resident, Elma Buchanan, were both arrested and charged.

Powell competed in many Nascar-sanctioned races in the 1980's, including at the Summerville Speedway.
