Devastating News--Ron Pestana Dies in a Race Car

General

I am still in shock after hearing the news of the passing of Ron Pestana. Ron was truly an amazing man. He was a Musician, Racer and more importantly a friend. I had just talked to Ron on Thursday and he was in very high spirts and was telling me about he going racing Sat. I told him Good Luck and call me from Victory Lane. Guess I will have to wait till I get to heaven for that call from Victory Lane where I am sureGod already knows Ron is a winner.

I will have more to say later. Just got to gather my thoughts.

R.I.P. Ron Pestana!

Happy 4th of July RacersReunion Family

Stock Car Racing History

Happy 4th of July RacersReunion Family

Today as I drove back from a family and friends get together I took some time to reflect on what the 4th of July means to me. It's different for everyone but I believe we can all agree that it's a holiday that reminds us of how blessed we are to live in the U.S. I would like everyone to take some time tonight to reflect on what this day means to you and your family.

This is what it means to me in a few brief words.

Freedom - It's an amazing the things in this world that we get to experience everyday as Americans. May we always value it for what it's truly worth.

Sacrifice - Today we remember our military heroes past, present, and future. The sacrifices they made and continue to make allow us to live the way we do. May we each attempt to appreciate the selflessness that all Veterans have shown. Please keep our military and their families in your prayers today and every day.

The American Dream - We can do anything and be anything, as long as we're willing to put effort into it. We are not entitled to anything but we are free to pursue our own happiness with so few limitations.

Family & Friends - They mean the world to us and help make us who we are. We can't imagine life without them and consider them our most treasured blessings this side of Heaven.

Fireworks & Festivities - As Americans, we love our celebrations. Relaxing, watching fireworks, and sharing a BBQ are just a few ways we love to celebrate Independence Day.

America the Beautiful - We're reminded of how beautiful a land we live and play in. For the 4th, we were at my brother and sister in-laws in Sumter doing some swimming, BBQing, and just some plain ole fellowship. Does it get any better than that???

What about you, what does the 4th of July mean to you? How did you celebrate with your family and friends? I'd love to hear what you did on the day that commemorates the birth of the best nation in the world. God bless the USA!

Past STARS Radio guest gets chance to shine

Stock Car Racing History

Past guest on STARS Radio C.E. Falk get chance to shine in the Camping World Truck series.

C.E. Falk III's early racing journey has spanned Virginia and the Carolinas, winning races at most every track he visits and constantly improving with every lap he takes. The multi-time Late Model track champion's journey takes him to Kentucky for the first time as he makes his 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut with Hillman Racing in the June 28 running of the UNOH 225 at Kentucky Speedway. The 24-year-old Virginia Beach, Va., native is no stranger to the national racing scene. He currently sits second in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national standings with nine victories. Falk has won multiple times on the three Virginia short tracks he's competed on this season his home track of Langley Speedway, South Boston Speedway and Motor Mile Speedway. Since the 2007 season when he joined the Late Model ranks on a full-time basis, Falk has won 45 times, recording 109 top-five and 128 top-10 finishes in 152 starts. He has made starts at most every NASCAR-sanctioned short track in Virginia. Falk is racing the #27 Chevrolet for Hillman Racing. The organization, in its first season fielding a truck, sits 19th in the Truck Series owner standings after fellow Virginians Ward and Jeb Burton piloted the Silverado at the start of the season. Ward Burton, the 2002 Daytona 500 champion, finished eighth in the season opener at Daytona and Jeb followed with finishes of 19th or better in four of the next five races. The younger Burton finished eighth at the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway, which gives the team something to build off of for Falk's debut at Kentucky.( Hillman Racing PR

Kurt Busch's troubles with the media continued on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway.

Stock Car Racing History

BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Kurt Busch 's troubles with the media continued on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway.

Busch had a brief, heated exchange with ESPN reporter Marty Smith after Saturday's Nationwide Series race at MIS, a week after serving a one-week suspension for making threatening comments to Sporting News reporter Bob Pockrass after the Dover Nationwide Series race.

Busch, on orders from Sprint Cup team owner James Finch, avoided talking to reporters upon arriving at MIS on Thursday. But when he finished third in the race won by Joey Logano on Saturday, he had to make a mandatory appearance in the media center.

As he waited to be interviewed, an MRN Radio pit reporter said on the live broadcast that Busch left the top-five area without interviewing.

Busch was told of the comment and replied, "That's what everybody says, don't they."

Busch then left the room to cool off. Several reporters, including Smith, with a camera crew, followed. Busch then told Smith to come over with his camera. When Smith got there, Busch said he wasn't doing interviews there, adding, "You ever hear of sarcasm?"

That led to a brief exchange during which Busch said, "You don't know how long I've been working on this."

Busch later returned to the interview room. His only comment on how it felt to return to the track after the suspension: "It was great to drive the car."

"It was a great finish, all in all," Busch added. "The restart before the final one, I was on the inside and went from third to eighth, and then the restart on the final one, I went from eighth back up to third."

NASCAR officials said Busch's exchange with Smith did not violate his probation, which was extended from July until the end of the season after the Dover incident.

Busch was placed on probation in May after a run-in with Ryan Newman on pit road after the race and for reckless driving on pit road during the race.

Busch was fined $50,000 last season after a profanity-laced verbal assault on ESPN reporter Dr. Jerry Punch after his engine failed in the season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. That led to what was described as a mutual split with Penske Racing.
