No injuries in fire at Gibbs Racing

General

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Fire caused significant damage to the engine department inside Joe Gibbs Racing headquarters Friday. No injuries were reported.

The incident initially was described as an explosion, but a spokesperson for the Huntersville Fire Department termed it a "significant flash fire" similar to an explosion because most of the damage was done initially.

According to a JGR team spokesperson, at about 9 a.m. ET, members of the team's engine department were running a routine test on one of two engine dynamometers. Dynamometers are machines used to run an engine through its paces to measure power and performance under the strain of race conditions.

A source within Gibbs' team says that it was during this test session that one of the engines exploded. The resulting fire damaged the dynamometer on which is was mounted and caused at least some damage to a second dynamometer located in an adjacent room.

The JGR spokesperson confirmed that the fire was contained within the two-room area of the engine dyno department, which is part of the team's 235,000-square-foot facility.

The spokesperson for the Huntersville Fire Department said the windows of the dyno chamber were still intact.

The main shop floor and second-floor offices continued business as usual shortly after the initial fire alarm sounded. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

Roughly an hour after the incident, team members received clearance from firefighters to re-enter the shop to assess damage. The JGR spokesperson described most of the damage as being caused by smoke and water from the brief firefighting effort.

The engine that exploded was not in the team's plans for Daytona Speedweeks, which begin Feb. 11, but the engine mounted on the second damaged dynamometer was. The initial concern for the second engine wasn't fire damage, but rather water damage

Help. The Legend has a problem.

Tim they MUST OFFER you a breathalyzer or blood test which you have the right to refuse. A field sobriety test alone will not convict you, unless you refuse the breathealyzer or blood test. So rest at ease my friend.

Holiday Message from STARS Radio

General

At this special time of year, we give thanks for Christ's message of love and hope. Christmas reminds us that we have a duty to others, and we see that sense of duty fulfilled in the men and women who wear our Nation's uniform. At Christmas, we also recognize the sacrifice of our Nation's military families. Staying behind when a family member goes to war is a heavy burden, and it is particularly hard during the holidays. To all our military families listening today, I say thank you, and we ask the God to bestow His protection and care on your loved ones as they protect our Nation.

This Christmas, millions of Americans are coming together to show our deployed forces and wounded warriors love and support. Patriotic groups and charities all across America are sending gifts and care packages to our servicemen and women, visiting our troops recovering at military hospitals, reaching out to children whose moms and dads are serving abroad, and going to airports to welcome our troops home and to let them know they are appreciated by a grateful Nation.

I urge every American to find some way to thank our military this Christmas season. If you see a Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, or a member of the Coast Guard, take a moment to stop and say, "Thanks for your service."

As you know, our troops are doing magnificent work in Afghanistan, Iraq, and a host of other places throughout the world. Many of them will celebrate the holidays while deployed on combat operations, defending our nation's freedoms far from home and far from loved ones. Them and their families - have made enormous sacrifices in recent years, in many cases deploying multiple times and enduring long separations from those at home while carrying out important missions in challenging conditions against tough enemies.

As we all remember our many personal blessings this holiday season, we should also take a moment to remember how truly fortunate our country is to have the remarkable men and women of our armed forces who serve so courageously and so selflessly. They truly are America's new greatest generation.

To our troops overseas and to those here at home: thank you for all that you have done to help keep America safe and to protect the values for which generations of Americans have fought in the past. We are deeply grateful for your extraordinary service now , and in recent years but we are equally thankful for all that we know you will do in the years ahead. It remains a great privilege to say THANK YOU to each of you.

At this special time of year, we reflect on the miraculous life that began in a humble manger 2,000 years ago. That single life changed the world, and continues to change hearts today. To everyone celebrating Christmas, Samantha and I wish you glad tidings. Best wishes to all of you for a wonderful holiday season and a great year in 2011. May God bless our great country and each and every one of you, and may God bless our troops serving around the world and their families at home.

Thank you so very much from one veteran to another!

Thank you for listening, and I hope each and everyone will continue to listen in 2011.......Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Hoss never ''crew chiefed a single race, ever. He will tell you the same. Runt was not only engine builder extroidanaire but also called wore the crew chief hat until he left for Morgan McClure in 1990. I worked in the shop at Ellington's under Pittman's rule, not Ellington's. Hossassumed responsibility as a car owner only. One'heck of a fun'' car owner I might add. A real Jewel!
