Dick Hutcherson

Stock Car Racing History

I saw your dad race the first time he came down south to Greenville Pickens Speedway and immediately gave the likes of Ned Jarrett, Richard Petty & etc fits on the half mile dirt track. I was a fan from that day forward and I always felt Hutch retired way too danged early.

Need your input

General

Just my opinion but I think the boats, show cars, drag racing ain't stock car racing and shouldn't be included or merged with the stock car groups.

And you think ole D.W. and crew were a law abiding team huh

Stock Car Racing History

Great story. I recall hearing about a bunch of pellets being found on the apron of a track after a race. I think it was at Bristol.

Louise Smith films or films from her era.

Stock Car Racing History

I'm not sure about Louise Smith films but many items from her estate were placed in eBay auctions a couple of years ago. Louise had a small house in her backyard that was filled wall to wall with racing momentos. I was able to obtain a few original photographs but I haven't heard of any films.

Is Jimmy and Jeff at outs???

Current NASCAR

If you will remember, sometime after the Daytona 500 Jeff Gordon was quoted as saying NASCAR needs more rivalries in order to survive. Maybe I'm wrong but I think this Johnson-Gordon thing is more show than anything. Unless they start hitting each other with their purses, that'll be my standing opinion.

Seeking Information About Floyd Powell

Stock Car Racing History

I'm putting together a local news article/column about the late Floyd Powell, Greenville-Pickens Speedway's first repeat track champion (1960, 61, 62). I know how Mr Powell died in 1963 but what I need are personal insights to the man from people who knew him or saw him race. The late Pete Blackwell, after hearing the news of Powell's death in '63, once said Powell was one of the greats in racing and was comparable to David Pearson when it came to natural talent. Anyone with information can email me at rogerjewell@charter.net and or post replies here.
