Jim, I think the photos of the #44 I posted earlier are of the Amateur division, so it's not you of course. I'll keep looking for another 44 car from the movie in the Sportman cars. Here's the program with you listed as driver of the 44 -

Jim,I did a little sleuthing today and found out that the very first annual New Year's Day Tobacco Bowl race was in 1955, the one you are list in the program as driving the #44. The clues in the movie that it is this race are - daytime, the infield grass is gray, people wearing jackets. Here are some things I found at the library -

Does that #44 car look like the one you drove?

Jim, thanks for watching the video. I have a suspicion the BGS footage is the annual New Years Day "Tobacco Bowl" race. In the video it looks like Winter to me. I don't know if they had one in 1954, but I have a program for the one in 55 and you are listed to drive the #44 car with no car owner listed.I will go to the library and look up articles for 54 & 55.

HELP - History/photos of former Fireball Roberts short track / Modified Sportsman 57 Ford

General

A question for the historians here -Did people really buy brand new cars to run in the Modified/Sportsman divisions? That seems kind of odd. Wouldn't it make more sense if this car was run in the Grand National Division? At least for the first year or two?I've always been under the impression the Modified/Sportsman divisions were for older cars to keep costs down...at least in those days.

Jim, here's a couple of questions for you...What was your most memorable race? What drivers made the biggest impression on you - or your car's bumpers for that matter?

Thanks, Jeff. I've been so use to just clicking on the photo itself that I didn't even notice the "View full size" link under the photos (Duh!). That still works for me so I'm happy now. I guess the photo click problem is on my end.

Is anyone else experiencing a glitch on the site where you click on a photo to enlarge it, but it then goes to the next photo instead? This is really bad if you need to enlarge a photo of a newspaper clipping to read it.Jeff, have you heard this one yet? Or is this a problem on my end?

Jeff, I'm having an issue with photo searches. The searches aren't bringing up nearly as many photos as they used to. I did a search for "Wendell Scott" in the past, and it brought up more than a page worth of photos. Now it brings up 4 photos? I've tried multiple different searches for drivers and it just doesn't bring up as many as it used to.Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I found this site and the radio show only a month ago, and I can't get enough. The interview with Bobby Allison was priceless. I don't see where the criticism is coming from. I very much appreciate all your interviewing styles...a group of friends kickin back and talking about what they love. I guess I missed "uncalled for" remarks because nothing came across to me as out-of-line at all. I don't want to demean anyone else's opinion, I just disagree.I guess when you're out there in front of people, you're going to catch some flack out of left field every so often. If someone doesn't like it, they can go start their own show I suppose.Keep up the great work, guys. The shows just get better and better!
