Many thanks to the volunteers and sponsors who helped with the 4th Annual Love Chevrolet RacersReunion®

General

I second all of that Jeff. It was an awesome day! Some very special "Legend Memories" were made during that beautiful spring day at Historic Columbia Speedway. Thank YOU for all that you have done to make this site and all that RacersReunion does so very special to so many people.

April 8, 1971: Richard Petty wins at Columbia SC

Stock Car Racing History

My mother actually assisted in the ribbon cutting for the opening of the newly paved track. She took about an 18 inch section of that ribbon and had Richard tie it around his steering column. The race was very close at the end but Richard prevailed. He laughingly told my other in victory lane that she "should have cut the ribbon a little longer because his good luck almost ran out". Oh, and did I mention that I took the checked flag from the flagman and climbed in the passenger's side of the Plymouth and sat on the door as Richard drove around the track with me holding the flag? I just wish I had a picture of that but it is a very true story. Thanks for the Memories.

What if a Tornado Hits Texas Motor Speedway

General

That is scary!!! Never thought about it but I do remember the year at Darlington when we had very severe weather the night before the race and parts of the infield flooded. We were parked behind Victory Lane so our motorhome didn't flood but in certain areas, cars were flooded. The tunnel in Turn 3 (in the old days) was flooded. Darlington had NAVY scuba divers go in to unstop the drains. It was quite an interesting night. Next day, race day, we had a hail storm that rocked our world if you can imagine being inside a motorhome with dime size hail beating on the roof. Quite a weather weekend. This was in the 70s, maybe 74 or 75.

DEAR D.W.

Current NASCAR

Jimmy, I know you aren't serious because I doubt D.W. speaks to you either. But, in the off chance that you are serious, tell Jaws I will be there and believe me, there is nothing I would enjoy more than getting a one on one with him to discuss our differences.

DEAR D.W.

Current NASCAR

Dear D.W.

I would like to issue a personal invitation to you and your brother, Mikey, to attend the event at Historic Columbia Speedway this coming weekend. I need you to clear up your comment at the end of the FOX broadcast of today's race wherein you stated "when Gordon got into Bowyer" and caused that melee at the end of the race. Excuse me? And, why after so many years of supporting Reuti for Sainthood, did you ever enduring mouth fail to find appropriate comments today when good old Reuti screwed up. I especially enjoyed Reuti's interview when he couldn't look at the camera or the interviewer. I was always told such actions indicate guilt.

Well, the Rules of Engagement on our site here will not allow me to express my complete feelings of digust that allows you and your brother to appear on TV but I truly do keep the tv on mute for most of the race. I just happened to have the sound on to hear the after race interviews otherwise I would not have heard your comment about how Gordon got into Bowyer and caused the accident. Guess Clint drives for Mikey so he couldn't have possibily caused the accident could he?

See you this weekend? You have the guts to show? lol, probably not.

Tim

Simple As Impactful As Fancy NASCAR Marketing Says Leonard; Wood Bros. Practice What They Preach

General

Thanks Dave. Another class act from the Wood Brothers. How special were the days of yore when the 21 and 43 were dueling for the win. What special memories those will always be for me.

Thanks, Legend, for the Look into the Earnhardt Family Photo Album

Stock Car Racing History

Thank you, Dave, for the kind words as well as for posting that link. I went and watched that twice. Kelley did an absolutely wonderful job. Yep, a few tears here watching the video. How she did it without a lump in her throat is a question I would love to ask her. What a wonderful tribute to Dale, Sr.

NASCAR Drivers Divided on Proposed Bruton Smith Bristol Changes

Current NASCAR

This is a most interesting discussion and I am enjoying ALL comments. However, my two favorite comments are from Jeff (and no I am NOT kissing up to the boss) and Billy Biscoe's. I had flashback memories of all my years in the Darlington infield, both races from 1957 to about 1992. Billy, you're right. The Hunger Games would be a walk in the park compared to some of those nights!!!
