THE 100th WIN FOR RICHARD CHILDRESS by a driver thats

General

I, too, believe Richard Childress to be a man of class and that was before he practiced fists exercises on the Candy Man. As I watched the end of that race, after hearing the commentators extol the virtue of Trevor Bayne helping Jeff Gordon because Jeff taught him so much at Daytona, I see Trevor duck to the inside and leave Jeff hanging out there apparently, from what the commentators said, was because NO Ford driver was to help any other driver that wasn't driving a Ford. I know Trevor did what he had to do, but to me that was low life. But thinking back over all my years of being around racing it always seemed to be Ford that cried the loudest, screamed the most, and generally bought their way into whatever they wanted. But anymore that really doesn't matter. What we saw today in Talladega was not racing as I have always thought it to be. What it was exactly escapes my ability to describe at this writing. Duck Boy did a good job of padding his lead but is that a racer? I think not, but it worked. So, I guess., rather than ruffle his feathers, I'll say "good job Duck Boy". Well, four races to go and the 2011 season is over. It started with promise when Trevor won Daytona, but it seemed. for the most part., to go down hill from there. I really think I am losing something here. I watched every lap of today's race, didn't miss a second of it and it still leaves me wondering what it was I was watching. Will I watch the remaining four races of this season? I am seriously doubting it at this time. I always loved Martinsville but I just don't know. And as for those other three tracks, well, they hold nothing for me. Looks like I'll have some free time for other things.

2 car push racing

General

I watched every lap. And I'm still not sure what I saw. I didn't especially like it but like BT, it was better than the one pack of 35 cars running three wide. It seems the love affair is over.

Michael Waltrip Racing Windshields Confiscated at Talladega

General

Michael Waltrip and Toyota came into Cup racing cheating. Seems they are getting bolder in attempts to find ways to cheat. I have to admit that was clever so I'm sure it wasn't one of the Waltrip brothers who thought of that. Some engineer is really good with imaginative ways to fool NASCAR.

Michael Waltrip Racing Windshields Confiscated at Talladega

Would someone please let me know what advantage the Waltrip brain thought it could gain by having windshields too thin? Would the weight difference be that much?

October 21, 1979 - Richard wins Rockingham

Stock Car Racing History

The "Racechaser" Motorhome was a part of our group at most tracks although the folks who owned that particular motorcoach were "high dollar" folks compared to us. You know, after my post, I started trying to remember the names of some of those folks in our group and while first names come easy, I'm having a hard time with the last names. I do remember the Smitheys though from NC because, thanks to this site, I have encountered Kenneth again and he was actually at the Raleigh event in January. What wonderful memories of those days I have, although the memory of names escapes me.

Stock Car Racing History

Yep, more great stuff for sure. Thanks for adding. Yep, we were there in our usual parking spot in the circle of motor homes that went to all the races. A couple from Virginia, a Family from Tennessee and two families from NC and our motorhome always made the encampment as the old wagon trains circling up. Can't do that these days but then I don't to these day so no biggie.

If Any of the Chase Contenders Need a Little Coaching...

General

I can think of two drivers in the chase that need this guy. If he doesn't mind getting paid in candy and duck feathers I think he has a position.

Don't Forget Harry Melling - He Put Bill Elliott & Dawsonville on the Map

General

Dave, I was at the HOF Induction Ceremony Friday night in Dawsonville and all three Elliott boys were on stage to honor their father being inducted. Harry was mentioned more than once although I don't recall the words spoken. I do recall Bill getting very emotional talking about his father and therefore ending the speech. It was very touching. Bill looked more like a professional business man, coat and tie and well groomed hair. It was a very special event Friday night.

AND CURTIS TURNER SAID TO BUCK BAKER........

General

Yes Mam, PattyKay, I forgot to mention Brad K., but he is included in the ones who do NOT complain about racing too hard. You support my post completely. That is exactly what I am saying, though not as eloquently. I'm frankly sick of such things as the "racing me too hard" phrase. Seems it's a weekly thing out of the mouths of Duck Boy, Candy Man, Sliced Bread, Lowe Boy, Feed the Elderly, and so many others. Ask Johnny Mallonee next time you speak with him if he, or I, ever accused the other of "racing me too hard". We competed, we banged, we exchanged barbs, but never fists, and after all these years I consider Mr. Mallonee as a great and dear friend. If he hadn't raced me hard, I would have considered him an idiot. There are two others, one I raced in Columbia, and one I raced in Myrtle Beach, every week, and we tore the sides off each other's cars most weeks because we were so evenly matched. Not one time did I, or either one of them, ever hold a prayer meeting like Duck Boy did with Candy Man as soon as the Charlotte race was over last Saturday. Seems we have many Prima Donas out there now who want the fame, the glory, the money, and all the other perks, but "don't mess up my hair".
