Chime in please: Kyle Busch/Elliott Sadler

General

For those of you who watched the truck race last night, or will go to NASCAR.com and check out the video, please let me have your comments on the incident with Kyle Busch last night in the Truck Race at Bristol. My Facebook page, which has several Kyle Busch fans, or should I say HAD Kyle Busch fans, had several comments this morning. At least two long time fans of his are now disgusted with his behavior and attitude and are blasting him there on Facebook. One young man in New York got down right vulgar in his comments.

Just want to know what your folks think. Watch the interview with Kyle on NASCAR.com and note the eyes. What does that tell you?

I await the comments of my esteemed associates here on Racers Reunion. Who knows, next week's Legendtorial may come from your comments.

2 in a Row for Marcos

General

I missed the Montreal race because my 7 year old grandson wanted me to watch a movie with him. I figured I could read about the raced and watch the highlights today so it was worth it to watch what Michael wanted to watch. I am pleased for Marcos! Good show. I am really a fan of road racing, as I stated in the Legendtoril last Tuesday and I wish there were more such courses. Certainly beats the mile and a half tracks all looking the same.

Riding the Hound to Darlington on Labor Day - September 5, 1966

General

Dave, each time I read this story I admire the adventure minded two young men who went to that length to get to Darlington. I'm sure that on that day you (nor Frank) ever suspected what racing would become to each of you and what each of you would contribute to the sport. Thanks for putting this story back to the forefront on Labor Day weekend.

Just wondering if you heard the comment from the announcing booth last night talking about how hard today's drivers have it try to "wrestle" a car around the "treacherous" tack. Thinking back to 1957, I wonder how many of those drivers out there last night could have driven around the track without getting lapped every 10 laps or so.

Oh, the memories. It's just too bad the errors made in the scripted notes of "history" provided to commentators these days. Some of the comments last night during the broadcast were not only inaccurate but were insane with the references made.

The race was great! The crowd was great! What did NASCAR learn about the nostalgia of the fans for what once was? Do you think they learned anything?

Thanks, Dave. You bring back so many memories for me. However, I only rode the hound twice in my life and neither trip was racing related.

Riding the Hound to Darlington on Labor Day - September 5, 1966

What a wonderful read for a Sunday morning. If I had read this on Labor Day morning, I would have really been nostalgic. I was at that was, infield, turn three. I thought my guy (The King) was going to win it. The following year (1967) the U.S. Navy had me in San Juan, PR. The only Darlington race I missed between 1957 and 2001.

A Friday thought or two about YOU folks

Administrative

Friday morning! Usually a day reserved for yard work but today I'm taking it easy because my doctor had to schedule an appointment at 11:50, right in the middle of the day to screw up anything I had planned to do. I can understand his BMW payment is due on the 20th, but I don't appreciate such inconsideration.

I have been sitting here reading all the Forum Posts, and all the Blog posts as well as reading all the comments. I've also been looking at all the pictures posted from the past two weeks, something I have not had time to do of late. I have come to a profound conclusion!

I really don't believe Jeff Gilder ever dreamed what he was creating with this site. Before Racers Reunion my computer experiences consisted of e-mails, watching what racing videos I could find, being in chat rooms talking about racing either on Yahoo or, back in the day, on NASCAR.com. I still don't know how to cut and paste and all that computer stuff, but I know how to find Racers Reunion and enjoy all it has to offer.

What has really rocked me this morning is having read all the posts and realizing what a wealth of knowledge, talent, experience, and history we have in this place. There is humor, there is nostalgia, there is history, there is future. Most of all, there is racing, past, present and future. There are differences of opinion but most, and I repeat MOST, are handled with humor or at least courtesy.

I also realized what honors have come to me personally through this site for which I am very thankful. I have been allowed to do things I could only dream of doing before. I have been a part of things that weren't even in the dreamscape before Racers Reunion. I am allowed to hang around legends of the sport who were, back in the days of my youth, the superstars of the sport but who are, today, friends I get to talk with on an almost regular basis. As I've said many times, spending time with Rex White never ceases to make me feel like someone very special. He certainly is someone very special. And there are so many more.

I am not going to start naming names of all you individuals here who have become personal friends through this site, most of whom I have met face to face, but each one of you should know who you are. And to those I have not yet met face to face, we need to work on that. Again, not naming names.

It was not my intention to swing this post around to ME, but because the reason for the post was to let you all know how important you are to ME and to Racers Reunion, it sort of had to come back around to me. Thanks for being my friend (if you are) and if you aren't, thanks for being a member of Racers Reunion.

Tim

August 19 - This day in Petty history

Stock Car Racing History

Thanks for posting TMC. I went to your site and read it all and enjoyed the pictures and news articles. I was going to comment there but I couldn't figure out how to do. I've told you about my lack of computer knowledge. I'm still trying to unstick my keyboard from my last "cut and paste" attempt.

Junie Donlavey Sells It All

General

This one brought a tear to my eye this morning. In reflection, I'm not sure the tear was for my sadness that Junie is not around racing anymore of for my happiness that he was a part of the sport for so long and, most importantly, in the formative years where men such as Junie made it happen. I think I'll go with the latter thought. God bless Junie and the memories.
