OK, NASCAR, WHAT SAY YOU?

General

"Kyle Busch has done nothing to violate his probation" - Mike Helton

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman" - Bill Clinton

"I am not a crook" - Richard Nixon

"The Titanic is unsinkable" shipping line advertising

"No indians within a 100 miles" unknown Army scout to Gen. George Armstrong Custer

"There is no fire in Rome" Nero while looking for his fiddle

"I'm from the government and I'm here to help you". Any goverment employee

Notice a trend here? Depends on what connotation you place upon the simple letters "B.S."

OK, NASCAR, WHAT SAY YOU?

General

Mr. Helton, others in the big NASCAR official mobile office, the ball is in your court, or more appropriately, the wheel is in your hands. Kyle Busch is on PROBATION. It has already been asked many times how NASCAR defines probation. It is time you step up and offer your definition. Kyle Busch is on probation by your own ruling. Also, by your own ruling, that probation includes all THREE series in which Mr. Busch chooses to participate. Yet, he runs into a fellow competitor AFTER the checked flag in the truck race simply because he was beaten by the youngster for fifth place. NOT THE WIN, mind you, but fifth place. What say you now, Mr. Helton, NASCAR, or whomever in that organization makes the rulings on such behavior. Does this qualify as a probation violation? If not, what does? Is it necessary Mr. Busch kill someone on the track, the highway, the garage area, or in a parking lot somewhere before NASCAR is able to determine the definition of probation.

I agree there are two sides to every story. While I do not condone Richard Childress taking matters into his own hands (fists) you have to applaud the thought process of the man from RCR when he realized that it is highly unlikely NASCAR would take any action against the Candy Man while another RCR vehicle suffered damage from the immature actions of the brat from Las Vegas. Richard has been around enough to know that NASCAR sees things in their own way and would let the incident pass in an effort to garner maximum publicity. Look back to the days of the black number 3. Look at the things Dale got away with that many other drivers would have been penalized for. Richard knows the game first hand.

Many say, and it is apparently so, rivalry is good for the sport. I agree to the extent the Petty-Pearson rivalry was great, the D.W. - Cale rivalry was good, and the Bobby Allison rivalry with everyone else was also an attention getter for the sport. But, with the exception of the 1979 Daytona 500 there was no real "showing out" other than on the track. Other than the 1976 Daytona 500, I do not recall Petty and Pearson being involved in an accident or taking it out on each other AFTER the flag. I don't really recall Cale and D.W. having a real altercation that did not involve excessive lip-flapping on the part of D.W. While Bobby and Richard and Bobby and several others bashed it out on the track, I don't recall other than fierce competition being the motive. With Candy Man you have a situation when his maturity level is called into question almost weekly. You have a guy who has no control over his behaviour, much like he had no control over his car twice in the 600 last week. He is a good driver and he proves that over and over, but there are many times when it is the other drivers who make him look good. Some of these miracle moves he makes, as D.W. like to brag about, would not happen without the other drivers giving him room. I very vividly recall two of those "awesome moves" being successful ONLY because Jeff Gordon was accommodating enough to give him room.

But I'm not writing this to discuss Kyle's driving ability. I'm only writing it out of the continuing frustration of seeing someone who desparately needs therapy being babied into stardom by NASCAR and Joe Gibbes. I have great respect for Coach Gibbes, but if he can't rein in Kyle Busch, he needs to dispatch him to another league. Surely it must be an embarrassment to Coach Gibbes, M&Ms, and, yes, even Toyota, to continually generate publicity from the inane actions of someone more deserving of a straight jacket than a firesuit.

Childress Punches Kyle Busch?

General

Wally, come on. I know where you're going with the "one side" but really. The situation is what it is because it has allowed to become so. One sided though it be, it is that way.

Childress Punches Kyle Busch?

General

Kurt and Kyle both exhibit pompous, careless, reckless, and discourteous attitudes in 99% of their actions. Kurt has calmed somewhat but having said that, remember the radio transmissions with his crew at Richmond. Are you of the opinion that these two rude men are the product of the education system in Nevada? I think not. But, I respect your right to your opinion however wrong you may be.

Childress Punches Kyle Busch?

General

A question comes to my mind, as it has before, about what kind of parents the Busch parents are. Was it not Kurt who got stopped in Phoenix, or maybe Las Vegas, and had the audacity to ask the officer "do you know who I am?". that is not a joke, check the official report on that. Was it not Kurt who was the most belligerent, rude, and know-it-all driver to come into the sport in a long time the first few years he was around? Has it not been Kyle who has now, time after time, embarrassed the sport? It is no small wonder you never see even D.W. trying to interview Mr. and Mrs. Busch. It is for certain those two will never be nominated for parents of the year, the month, the day, or even the hour on this planet. It is proof positive, from the two off spring they produced, that stopping at two was a very, very good idea and a great thing for the rest of the world.

Well, Kyle is really getting the press. A politician would have to pay for that kind of coverage.

Us Seniors vs Today's Racers

General

Thanks Dave! I love that. That sounds exactly like something my Daddy would have come up with. He was so quick with the sharp remarks. Makes me miss him even more to know he's missing all this we are doing here on RR. Of course he died before things changed but I can hear him now talking about the way things should be in racing. If you think I'm opinionated, you should have met him. But, thanks again. If that is a true story, I want to meet that old man.

RANDOM NOTES FROM THE 600

General

Just some observations from the 600 which, I hope, may entertain some of you.

1. Being in the stands as hot as it was, most guys had their shirts off. I can attest, without reservation, that you should invest in futures for tattoo ink. I have never seen so many gross, unattractive tattoos as I did Sunday. One guys, maybe 30 years old had tattoos from his neck down, just scrolling ink lines. He looked as though he is a good candidate for a Circus freak show. Do they even have those anymore or are freak shows reserved for Washington, D.C.? Almost everyone from, women included, 16 and up were tattooed with something. One woman I saw at the concession stand (or should I call that place robbery central?) had both arms tattooed to look like lace.

2. To the 12 year old 300 pound boy sitting on the row behind us, it is NOT cool to take off your shirt and expose all that to anyone. Even my 7 year old grandson wondered how you could be that overweight at your age. I wish you well and hope you will take steps to resolve the weigh issue. It's going to kill you.

3. To the woman sitting in front of us with the Jeff Gordon cap. It is NOT cool to stand every 3 minutes in front of my grandson with that HUGE rear end of yours right in his face in those black jeans. I assume those were jeans. I have read where they had to sew the black leather pants on Olivia Newton John in the last scenes of Grease and then cut them off of her after filming. Lady, I'm tell you, everytime you stood up I was in shock that jean fabric could expand that much. Speaking of expanding, how long have you been working on expanding the girth stuffed into those jeans?

4. To the woman in the next row in the Kyle Busch t-shirt and Carl Edward cap (talk about indecision) with the long grey haired pony tail sticking out, what in God's name possessed you to wear those 4 inch spike heels to a race. Were you "hooking" for Kyle or Carl? Jeez lady, I kept waiting for you to break and heal and fall.

5. To the approximately 17 year old boy with the striped bermuda shorts and no shirt, and the tattoo of an angel all over your back, I am assuming you were sentenced by your coach of something to run the grandstands. I know I saw you up and down those stairs no less than 600 times during that race. Next time, don't get seats at the TOP of the stands, sit down front and save come energy.

6. To the 600 plus pound dude you could not fit into the seat in the Toyota Grandstands because the seats have little arm rests, it is NOT cool to spend the entire race standing in the aisle with your girth making it almost impossible to get around you to go down. You should have joined the young man running up and down the steps the entire race.

7. Until Sunday, I had no idea that men's underwear came in so many brands and designs. With no shirts and pants hanging around their knees, I was exposed (not me personally but them) to every brand of men's underwear known to man. I never even knew there was an "American Eagle" brand of underwear.

8. To the lady who had enjoyed a little too much of Kevin Harvick's sponsor's product, whom I encounter going across the pedestrian bridge to the parking lot. Did you really bring your two kids with you and drink like that and then drive them home. Your son looked to be about 13 and your daughter about 9. You should be jailed for child abuse. I hope you all made it home safely. Oh, and for the record, those two kids look mortified to be seen with you. Even my 7 year old grandson was embarrassed for your children. When he saw you, he held on to my hand even tighter and looked up at me with a questioning face. I didn't say anything but looking back, I should have told him it is not cool to be like that.

9. To the man three rows behind us who unleased a string of profanity before the race, for reasons unknown as nothing was going on. Thanks for sitting down and shutting up when I stood up and gave you the "look to kill". Those were my grandsons and I don't want them exposed to such. I would not have come back there as it is not my nature to cause a scene, but I would certainly have engaged the services of the security office down front had you continued.

10. Finally, to the two dudes in the red Corvette with the North Carolina personalized tag containing the letters "JW", you need to be aware that just driving a red Corvette does not entitle you to cut in front of folks. I'm still trying to figure out why the rednecks in the jacked up four-wheel drive Ford F-250 didn't reduce your ride to a pile of red plastic. Next time, dude, have some class. Most everyone else in the parking lot did and we had a good time and lots of conversation getting out of there.

So, until my next visit to a NASCAR track, that is a small portion of the entertainment presented by NASCAR fans of the new generation. In fairness though, as stated in my Legendtorial on Tuesday night, most of the folks we encountered, fans and speedway personnel were awesome. It was truly a grand experience for me and my three grandsons. So, to all the fans who made it a great day, thanks, and I hope you all are the ones I sit next to on the next trip.

IF YOU HAVE A DISLIKE OF NASCAR THESE DAYS, YOU NEED TO JOIN ME TONIGHT

Jeff, I don't think your comment is corny at all. Pretty much what I was trying to say but you just said it better.

As for my "coins", I was actually paid appearance money by Bruton to appear. He felt he needed a Racers Reunion Rep since this site is starting to make huge in-roads with NASCAR. He didn't want to be left behind.

The Legendtorial on Racing Through History tonight on Racers Reunion Radio will concern the present day preoccupation with most of us (certainly me) in finding ways to nickpick NASCAR, the new fans, the tracks, the cars and the whole nine yards. Join me and chime in. I'm sure my comments are going to generate heated responses.
