And you think NASCAR doesn't spy on us?

Current NASCAR

Remember when I posted the Forum Sunday about being kicked off the NASCAR Fan Council? Latest bulletin on that is, I am now reinstated.

I received an e-mail from The Fan Council earlier today stating that "my input is very valuable to the Council" and they asked me to complete a questionairre which I have done and forwarded it back. Whether or not that will be a cause of celebration remains under consideration from The Legend's Lair, but no where but here did I post anything about being kicked out. So, fellow Racers Reunion friends, be awarew that NASCAR has its spies at work here. Whether or not that will cause riots as are being experienced in the Middle East is subject to conjecture by those far more intelligent than I.

Please? Pretty Please?

Current NASCAR

For so many years of my life, this is the time of year that would rival the anticipation of a 6 year old at Christmas time as I looked forward to the annual trek to Daytona for the 500. I always wanted to attend the Twins on Thursday but work always prevented that. I usually got to the track very early on the Saturday morning after driving all night and staked out my place in the infield. At first, Saturday was the Modified-Sportsman race which became the Busch, which became the Nationwide and is now close to the spectical of the 500 itself. I think this year will be a little more special on Saturday because the guys who run the series as regulars will sort of have their interests protected to an extent by the new NASCAR rules.

As for the 500, that is my urgent request to NASCAR. Please, pretty please, give us something to enjoy on Sunday. I am hoping the racing will be close, safe, and exciting. The constant tinkering with the rules going on since this past Saturday night indicates, at least to my untrained mind, that NASCAR is clueless in the area of managing this race. Did not these cars and drivers test there in January? Was it not possible to know then about the two car breakaway drafting? Was it not possible to anticipate what would happen this month? Where are the "experts"? Now, we are a few days away from what should be the biggest spectical in stock car racing and the rules are being changed to the extent, as I understand them, to cause cars to overheat if they draft closely for more than a couple laps. What is it about this that I'm missing? NASCAR is attempting to regulate competition by subjection $100,000.00 engines to overheat and blow? I'm really outdated on this one.

It would seem, after the debacle of the pothole red flags last year, and all the expense of repaving that track, that NASCAR would want the best possible presentation on Sunday. These last minute changes seem to me to be a desparate attempt to do something, but I don't even understand what that something is.

So, please, pretty please, NASCAR, put some control back in the hands of the teams to compete for the win. There are drivers capable of racing for the win, teams very capable of managing their own fortune in the race. Please try to refrain from having last minute changes complicate this race. It is the ONE race I will definitely watch this season. Whether or not there will be others I sit down for depends on how you handle this scenario.

OK, IT IS OFFICIAL. I HAVE BEEN KICKED OUT.

Current NASCAR

Good Morning All!

This is a newsflash for all of those with whom I communicate regularly here on Racers Reunion. It is over, done, finished, concluded, and will be no more.

Since the inception of the NASCAR Fan Council I have been one of the 12,500 members, not that this was an exclusive club but in the overall scheme of the millions of fans NASCAR claims to have, I did feel sort of special. This morning I had an e-mail from the Fan Council stating that in order to remain a member I must update my information. Last year, when I was really upset with NASCAR I tried to get out but the e-mails kept coming and they would not remove me. However, this morning, when I completed the information update and answered one question that I AM involved with radio and/or written press, I received a notification that I was NOT ACCEPTABLE TO THE NASCAR FAN COUNCIL. I was thanked for my past involvment but was told I was being deleted from their data base immediately. I did write them back and tell them I have been previously deleted from the data base of another site much superior to NASCAR Fan Council so I wouldn't get upset over NASCAR's lack of etiquette.

So, to anyone else renewing your Fan Council membership, don't mention you know me or you're gone!!!! Oh, by the way, that other site let me back in after I had to beg and cry for two days.

What can we exspect?

General

BT, what I saw watching the practice last night, was the ability of two cars to literally touch bumpers all the way around the track with very little "wiggling" from either one. I also saw the ability of one to slingshot the other although a couple times that looked liked it got a little squirrley. It will be exciting to watch but I don't think we'll really see what anyone has until the last 50 miles of the 500. Just looks like they are all playing it very cautiously.

Thanks for the addition to the post Wally. I hope everyone who can donate willdo so. This is a situation unworthy of such a gentleman as Jimmy. I spoke with him Thursday and one of the problems appears to be the inconsistency of the recommended repair people. Seems like the old "bait and switch" for which car dealers are known. Keep the faith and every who can, please help us out here.

Thanks, Jeff. Oh, and the TSCM donation was $75.00 so that's another $5.00 we didn't know about. It is a shame to be getting that close and not be able to get all the way. Sort of like Dale, Sr. blowing that tire on the last lap when Derrick Cope won the 500. I hope we can top it off today. Thanks for the update.

I spoke with Jimmy yesterday afternoon by phone. I told him what you folks are doing and he is deeply appreciative. Like me, Jimmy believes in this group of folks here on Racers Reunion and I see that Jeff posted 5 hours ago that we are HALF WAY THERE, Half way to the goal in 48 hours. Folks, that is awesome. We just need to close the deal now and get Jimmy on the road. My personal thanks to each and every one of you for your support of Jimmy. Come see me at Middle Georgia and Columbia Speedway and let me tell you some Jimmy Johnson stories that will confirm the contribution you make went to a very good cause. Even better, meet Jimmy for yourself and you'll see what I'm talking about. Half way there!! Let's do it.
