WHAT I HEARD ON THE LOCAL NEWS THIS MORNING

Current NASCAR

I heard, twice this morning, that one of the announcements the most excellent Brian France will announce in his upcoming press conference concerns a change in the awarding of points in the 2011 season. It seems the plan is to award 43 points to the winner, then drop one point per position to last place. There is no mention for bonus points for leading a lap, leading the most laps, winning the pole, winning the race, or kissing D.W.'s rear end.

I outlined this very plan in one of the Forums I either posted or responded to months ago. And, being one of limited imagination and intelligence, I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands others out there who came up with the same thing. Is NASCAR actually listening to fans? Reading post on Racers Reunion? Pulling their heads out of the beach sand? Who knows?

I will look forward, with dread for the most part, to hearing other announcements to come from the most excellent BZF.

THE TRUTH ABOUT NEXUS FUEL PRODUCTS

General

Folks, look in the right hand column of the Home Page for Racers Reunion for Marketing Partners and a link to the Nexus site is there. You can read all about it and order there. I just finished up my first week of "in-town" driving with the product and although I haven't computed the mileage yet (which I have already indicated I can't do well) instead of reaching the exact 1/2 tank mark at 160 to 170 miles, I just reached in this morning at 226 miles. I watch that closely. I'll compute that mileage when I fill up tomorrow. And, the odd thing is that this increase was from the residual Nexus I had put in leaving Raleigh last Saturday. I'll keep reporting on what I'm finding, and I am NO expert, but I already know Nexus works because I'm seeing it. Seeing it just as plainly as the sign at the gas station I pass on the way back and forth to work that went UP TEN CENTS between 8:30 yesterday morning and 5:30 yesterday afternoon.

THE TRUTH ABOUT NEXUS FUEL PRODUCTS

General

Most people who will read this know I cut up a lot and joke around with everyone. Most people who know me also know when it's time to get serious, I handle that with the same dedication. This is one of those serious posts.

When I am complimenting people, I do that sincerely, although I have been accused of being a phony because most of my words appear to be flattery. The truth behind that is this. I truly like people. I love being around people and interacting with people. I admit, that with rare exception, I overlook the negatives about a person and praise the positives (D.W. notwithstanding). I guess I watched "Bambi" too many times and listened to Thumper's mother remind him "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".Having said that, those sentiments apply to people.

As for companies, businesses, and products, I am very critical, almost to the point of being abusive at times. I cannot stand to feel I am being ripped off or taken advantage of by anything I buy, product or services. I am noexpert on anything nor qualified to express "expert" opinions as to the worth of any product or service. However, when I do find something I feel strongly about, pro or con, I will certainly express an opinion when I'm asked, and sometimes without even being asked. Two cases in point here:

1. "Red Dirt Rising". I wrote a post about this movie here and on Facebook because it is sincerely a movie any race fan interested in the history of the sport presented in a very positive way, needs to see. It is a very touching portrayal of early pioneers of stock car racing and their contributions. It is well worth the time to watch it. Awesome movie!!!

2. "Declarations of Stock Car Independents". This is the second book of historian Perry Alan Wood and tells the stories of drivers in their own words. Very educational, often funny, sometimes very touching, but an awesome read for any true race fan.

But both of those endorsements are personal opinions you can either agree with me or not. It's just opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs. Now, let's go for facts. Cold, hard, facts.

When I left to go to Raleigh this weekend, part of the plan was to find out about this Nexus Fuel Product which has come on board. I carefully filled the tank to the top of the Honda Odessy when I left Columbia. I drove to Raleigh WITHOUT Nexus in the tank, keeping the cruise on all the way set right at the speed limit so all figures would be a fair reflection. I filled up just outside of Raleigh coming back and put a 6oz can of the Nexus Fuel Product in the tank as recommended by Jack Keller, President of Nexus for the first use.

As I have discussed with Jeff, I am not good enough with Math to remember all the formulas about converting decimals points and such, but I did the figures rounding off the tenths. This is what I came up with:

Trip up to Raleigh WITHOUT Nexus: 23 mpg rounded

Trip back to Columbia WITH Nexus: 26.5 mpg rounded

For those of you who are mathematically inclined and can move the decimals to the proper places and divide, here are the exact figures:

Trip up: 276.4 miles for which I used 12.24 gallons of gas.

Trip back: 211.9 miles for which I used 8.248 gallons of gas

Both tanks were Shell 87 octane gas and both tanks were topped off completely and very carefully to the same level (where you could see it under the flag). That is as scientific as I can get.

So, I am impressed with the product. I also can feel a smoother response in the engine but that comes through my right foot so I'm not sure about that. Go figure that about us old race drivers. As my good friend Harlow Reynolds reminds us "the older I get, the better I was".

I am not paid for this endorsement and I am certainly not a celebrity endorser. But, I tried the product, I will continue to use the product and I can tell you the information herein is absolutely as legitimate as I can make it. I kept the careful record and my only interest in this entire test was to see if what Racers Reunion is endorsing is worth the effort. In my opinion, it is well worth the effort. With gas prices climbing every day, Nexus will become a real money saver.

So, there you have it. I guess you can say that Nexus Fuel Product is "Legend endorsed".

This Nexus is good stuff. It's not Junior Johnson's moonshine but it must be almost as powerfjul.

What I learned from Wally Bell in Raleigh.

Administrative

I had a tremendous time in Raleigh at the show. Got to see several long time friends, share stories, and all those wonderful things all this family of Racers Reunion folks do when we get together. With all of that, I also go to meet the most impressive Wally Bell. Wow, what an experience to be in the presence of such drag racing history embodied in someone of gentle speech and caring ways. I learned quite a bit about drag racing from Wally.

I also learned something else from Wally. DO NOT ALLOW JEFF GILDER TO DESCRIBE YOU TO ANYONE. Wally told me that when he asked Jeff about how I could be described, Jeff told him I was about 325 pounds, hunched over with old age, warts on my face, and that I limped really badly as well. Guess it's all in the eyes of the beholder. Thanks, Wally, for overlooking Jeff's inaccurate description of me. After all, I do NOT have warts on my face.

Ann and I will certainly remember the family. I didn't know David, but I do recognize the name. Thanks for bringing this to the attention of the Racers Reunion Family BT.

The new year is upon us Are you Ready?? You got Answers??

Current NASCAR

Johnny, it is with great dread and trepidation that I await the new conference promised by the gracious and glorious Brian France when he was interviewed in Homestead. He said then that NASCAR was looking at changes to several areas that would be announced in January. This may do it.
