Your opinion please

General

Jeff, I just checked out all the sites you mentioned. Frankly, I am surprised that this one best suits me although I was not a big fan of it when it changed Sunday. The deal is, according to my doctors, I am "red-green color deficient" which, essentially (and ask Misty) from what I'm told means I cannot determine different shades of red or green, or any of the derivatives of those colors. I have no real explanation as to why, but I have discovered that this current format works very well for me.

Sorry to be so expressive, but you HAVE accused me of being opinionated, so there!

Got the post too late to see it tonight. Beside, I am not aware of a "versus" channel on Time Warner. What number is that?

Help. The Legend has a problem.

General

While I do not condone, in any way, driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol, I must point out a situation of great concern to me.

There is currently a DUI television commercial running on our local station where the Highway Patrolman stops a guy who was driving and drinking beer in his pickup truck. The Patrolman asks the guy to stand on one foot and lift the other six inches off the ground. When the guy loses his balance, the Patrolman cuffs him and takes him off to jail. I have tried this test several times and I CANNOT DO THAT WITHOUT LOSING MY BALANCE.

Another situation occured recently where a client of the law firm where I spend my days, was stopped and told to recite the alphabet backwards beginning with "Z". I have been trying this and I cannot do that either. Neither could that client and off to jail he went. Wonder if he tried to buy a vowel?

So, I would assume if I get stopped for a track stop by an officer eager to fulfill his quota of DUIs for the month, I will be cuffed and taken to the "slammer". Someone help me out here. Do they give you the breathalyzer before OR after then take the picture and book you? I may be afraid to go out and drive anytime soon. They are always doing traffic stops on I-20. Yesterday I thought I was at a K-Mart going out of business sale on I-20 west from Columbia to Lexington. Seriously, there was a somewhat overweight Highway Patrolman standing on the Bush River Road overpass with one of those little speed guns. There were 7 Lexington County marked cars, 6 Highway Patrol marked cars, and 4 Highway Patrol unmarked cars, all with blue lights blinking and vehicles stopped.

I'll end this with the reassurance that I have the deepest respect and appreciation of our law enforcement officers. I just worry about that standing on one foot deal. Help me out here. NASCAR never required such a test. My guess is little Brian would fail it too.

Happy New Year my dear friend. Those thoughts are so beautiful expressed I wish I could have them framed for my wall here in the Lair. I do hope your New Year, as I hope for all of us, really rocks.

Merry Christmas Nascar?

General

That is an excellent question and, frankly, it had not occurred to me to ask. I am so accustomed these days to NASCAR taking, taking, taking, and giving back nothing, that I overlooked it completely.

Did we make enough noise about where short track racing is going?

Local and Regional Short Track Racing

When first I read this post, I assumed Mr. Mallonee had written the entire thing as he is usually most eloquent when approaching issues so close to his heart. It was not until after I posted my comment that I realized D.W. was actually the author. Even so, and considering my strong distain for Mr. Waltrip, he did make a statement about the issue of short tracks and the survival of local short track racing. To read what has been written by Randy Myers has impressed me to the extent that I want to join PattyKay in the request to have that response posted in any and all places where the entire racing world can read and comment. Also, Bobby Williamson has made several valid points in his response as well. This site has the most empassioned and knowledgeable people in the world of motorsports right here. We need to do whatever it takes to get that information out to the rest of the fans who don't know about Racers Reunion. As Johnny M. asked "have we made enough noise yet"?

Johnny, that is an incredibly well thought out and well presented Forum. So many points right on target. Having been a product of the short tracks of which you speak, I know you hit the nail on the head with several points here. I don't have an answer for the problem, but with the right people all coming together there is bound to be an answer. I'm not ready to give up but the one point you raise that is so very valid is the lateness of the hour when the local short track programs end. Newspapers have long since been "put to bed" and so many of the younger fans are up far past their bedtimes. I've seen more than one kid carried to the car on his daddy's shoulder sound asleep even with all the cars running.

Merry Christmas and may God bless you.

LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH, AND LET IT BEGIN WITH ME

General

Thanks Barb! This past Tuesday night was the first one since the first week of June that I didn't get to have fun on the radio. I will be glad when we're back next week. The good thing is that the radio network, Zeus, will be even better. Hope you're thawing out and getting the snow moved.

LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH, AND LET IT BEGIN WITH ME

General

Ann and I didn't send Christmas cards this year. We could say it is because Hallmark just didn't have a card that says what we wanted to say, and that, partly is true. We could say we ran out of time, and that too, is partly true. But, the overbearing reason is that I was out of work for the first three months of this year and although we didn't suffer like some, there has been some belt tightening around the Leeming household (and no comments about how much I eat causing such action). There are so many of you we wanted to send cards to that the $.44 cents postage per card would surely have caused a consultation with a bankruptcy attorney.

Thus, this Forum Post. In lieu of Christmas cards I am writing this post to let each and every one of you, my Racers Reunion Family, know that Ann and I wish you the very best Christmas of your lifetime. We are an unique family of sorted individuals from around the world who share the common interest in stock car racing, and, from what I've encountered, a common belief that we can each make a difference in how the heritage of stock car racing is remembered and recognized.

The other common bond here is, for some special reason, this Racers Reunion Family knows the true meaning of Christmas and what the birth of that child means to the world. Peace on Earth is an often repeated phrase this time of year, and it is the sincere wish of most of us. I do sing that song often, "let it begin with me" but many times I don't live the words. This is a good time of year for all of us to remember that prayer and truly let it begin with each of us.

There is, of course, no peace of earth because of that serpent and that apple. But, because a Baby was born in a stable some 2,000 plus years ago, we can have the peace of knowing that our sins are forgiven and that we can truly have peace in our lives. So, my Racers Reunion Family, Merry Christmas from Ann and I to each of you, and we pray the blessings of peace to each of you. As Tiny Tim says, God Bless us everyone!!!!!

Merry Christmas
