Tex Enright - The Indian Flagman. He used to travel throughout the northeast to flag races in an old hearse. In the late 60's, at East Windsor Speedway, in New Jersey, a car climbed and rode the wall on the fronstretch. The flagger's stand was mounted on top of the wall. The car cut the flagger's stand off the wall, breaking all the flags, except one and ripped off all the caution light controls. Tex was blown off the stand by the imapct. He grabbed the only remaining flag and ran down the frontstretch, right at the screaming pack of cars, waving the GREEN flag!!!. EVERY single drive immediately came to a stop!!! After the dust setteled and the car removed from the wall, the track announcer interviewed the leading driver, while the lighting was repaired. Asked WHY he stopped for the GREEN flag, the driver stated," For Tex to be running in the middle of the track, waving that flag frantically as he was, I knew something bad had happened and I just HAD to stop!!" I was there and witnessed it MYSELF! The only time I have ever seen a race STOPPED with the GREEN flag!!!
