Tiny Slayton went on that year - 1960 and the next - 1961 to win the NASCAR National Modified Championship with the late Johnny Roberts at the wheel. A lot of great drivers won a lot of races in a lot of places for Tiny Slayton. Here's a line fom the official history of South Boston Speedway:South Boston became NASCAR sanctioned in 1960, with the track holding its first NASCAR sanctioned race, a 50-lap Modified show, on April 16, 1960. Johnny Roberts of Baltimore, Md., won that race, collecting $500 for his effort. The car, of course, belonged to Tiny Slayton!Tiny Slayton came out of retirement in the late 70s to help Diane Teel, racing at Langley Field in Hampton, Virginia, become the first female to win a NASCAR Later Model Sportsman race. Thanks for sharing this wonderful article, Jack.
