Not very many people realize that during the 50’s full bodied Nascar Sportsman stock cars raced at Memorial Stadium in Daytona in addition to racing on the beach during Speed Weeks. Nascar Midgets, and Motorcycles also ran at Memorial Stadium. This ad is from 1958.

Race event coverage in the Daytona Morning Journal on February 17, 1954 of the event previewed by Jack Walker notes that there was a shortage of stock cars at the Memorial Stadium due to cars being geared for the Beach / Road Course. In those pre-quick change rear end days, the stadium promoter combined the Sportsman and Modified fields, having a Modified-Sportsman feature instead of separate races.
