If Richard Petty had not been "Richard Petty" he would have wound up like Curtis Turner. Outside looking in. Richard, and all the rest of the PDA'ers were on thin ice. There was never room for two dictators in NASCAR........ The next spring (1970) at Rockingham's "Carolina 500" Richard Petty presented a plaque, on behalf of the PDA, and as its president, honoring and thanking Bill France/NASCAR for all they had done for the good of racing over the years.......................it wasn't too awful long until the PDA quietly vanished.
