Jernigan in Victory at Occoneechee
The Flock monopoly at Occoneechee has ended.
Yesterday afternoon Joe Jernigan the flash from Norfolk, streaked into the lead after two laps and held the first post for the remaining 28 laps to win first place money. It was the first time in three years that one of the Flock boys, Tim, Fonty or Bob had not won the main event at the local track.
Jernigan drove a Ford coach to the championship. Wally Campbell of New Jersey was second. In preliminary races, Tim Flock edged Curtis Turner of Roanoke, Va., in a three-lap engagement and FIock also took first place in the second heat event. Sara Christian of Atlanta won the 10-car sportsmanship race.
June 18, 2015: 65th anniversary. Wow.
