The Best There Ever Was
from the Strickler Family Collection. That's not a building in the background. It's the trailer used by the traveling Chevrolet performance clinic that the Ammon R. Smith dealership operated. Howie Slaybaugh, the crew chief whose name is lettered on Dave's car, was a longtime Old Reliable guy. The car behind it, the 1968 Camaro, is one of the Grumpy's Toy cars. Both of them were big-block SS/C cars. That's an awfully tall trailer they had, I'll say that. I'd venture to guess this was taken right in York somewhere. This was a full Chevrolet sponsorship, even though you'd never get them to admit it, just like Sox & Martin and Dick Landy were operating their performance clinics with full Chrysler sponsorship back in 1969
