Newman Still Does Not Have to Win

Current NASCAR

I know the Benny Parson's story. Ralph Moody cut the roll cage from another car, and welded it into Benny's...........etc. etc. etc. I know the story. But, as you point out..Benny WON A RACE. So far, Newman has not. Which flies into the face of NASCAR's own mantra for 2014.........it's all about winning......... This system was supposed to reward wins....such was not the parameters of 1973.

Newman Still Does Not Have to Win

Current NASCAR

It's not Ryan Newman, it could be any driver. The issue is a win-less champion. Consistency is a virtue, but that a'int the reason folks by tickets and watch the race on TV. The "big game" a'int won by the most consistent team, that actually has not won a game..........only in NASCAR.

Newman Still Does Not Have to Win

Current NASCAR

To be the 2014Sprint Cup Champion, win-less Ryan Newman has to finish ahead of Harvick, Hamlin, andLagano,With NASCAR's arsenal of wave-arounds, lucky-dogs, pit-road speeding, loose lug nuts, AND the ultimate sliver bullet........DEBRIS CAUTION, it's possible. Stick and ballers DO have to win to make it to the final four. How is it possible that multi-time 2014 winners are now sitting on the sidelines, locked out of the championship? Guess the brain-trust never saw this one coming.

Wonder Boy (with busted lip) Calls Bad Boy Brad a Little Dip....

Current NASCAR

Agree, Andy, that Clint Bowyer caution was not necessary. He scraped the wall a few times, never spinning or stopping. NASCAR, rather than checking for debris, etc. etc. instantly threw the yellow. Flour laps to go, Brad K. lining up 3rd.........

Wonder Boy (with busted lip) Calls Bad Boy Brad a Little Dip....

Current NASCAR

There's not a 'right or wrong' answer IMO.....if one's ever driven a race car, in a race......those situations develop. A glimmer of a 'hole'. Do I go for it, or not? If it works, it works. Hero or zero, or both. Only one car is likely to emerge from these encounters, and both my crash. Every race driver has to make his own decision when the moment happens. The entire territory is not rationale, either. Dale Sr. made a living of such maneuvers, became a legend, bigger than Elvis. Fans could NOT get enough of it. But that driving style has not seemed to transfer to anyone else: 'Jaws' Waltrip the Bush brothers, Lagano, and now Brad, all are triggering the "Boo!" response on driver intro's.

IN 1957 THERE WAS A SPECIAL FORD BUILT TO RUN IN NASCAR

Stock Car Racing History

For years, the Whiteville, NC Ford dealership was "Quality Ford" goes by a different name now. Under the radar, for sure, but maybe that was the plan.

At the end of the day, it is what it is.

Current NASCAR

Tim, I agree, at the end of the day, it is, what it is. NASCAR/Brian Z et.al. are representative of our culture at large:nothing makes any sense, and what if it did? Ratings continually decline, fans and sponsors and ESPN (declining to even submit a bid for the new contract) all leave, yet, it doesn't seem to matter. And, finally, a non-winner could "win" the chase. Looks just like the rest of the world to me.

Early 1950's Race Track Between Erwin & Dunn, NC - Anybody Know What Track?

Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks

The track at the D-B Drag Strip was called "Broad-Slab Speedway" don't know the origin of that name, but it's footprint could still be seen until it was partially bulldozed in a recent drag strip modernization project.

Here's a photo of Dunn Legion Speedway right off of I-95 at Jonesboro Road...not sure if this is the same track as Dunn-Erwin.
