A few weeks ago I found that my Daughter had a box of 8MM film that my Uncle Tom had taken in the early 50s.
Stock Car Racing History
I was driving # 20.
He was a movie camera nut.
I gave this movie film to a friend of mine and he is transposing it to DVDS
He just told me there are some film of me driving stockcars.
When he finishes I will put the Racing parts on RacersReunion.
I have no idea what or where these were taken.
I hope they will give you some Idea what it was like in the "old days".
I can remember when Ken got started in Raclng.
It was in the Winter and they were holding races indoor in an old Tabaco Warehouse.
The races were 3/4 Midgets and Ken ended up in the 3rd row of the Grandstands.
We also ran Mini Stocks (Crosleys) Indoors.
Back then I weighed around 160# and that gave me an atvantage.
I remember a friend of mine Bud Guisleman (sp) competed for 3 or 4 years with an old convertable division car that he welded a hardtop on it.
Most of the tracks were 1/4 or 1/3 mile tracks.
Sorry I can't be of any more help.
Most of these drivers are dead now.
I am one od the oldest members of Racers Reunion (83).
I raced Sportsman Stockcars in the early 1950s.
I can remember Richard Petty and Buddy Baker as kids playing around in the pits .
I am a Master Certifird Barberque Judge.
I had planned on trying to contact all the drivers in Eastern North Carolina that I raced with, but they are all dead.
I wrecked my car at Wilson in 1952 and he sliped me a $20.00 after most of the croud had gone home and I was still trying to get my car towable.
Never saw Talledega Nights.
Saw Greased Lightning, they took too much "Dramatic Licence" in it.
In fact all Movies about Racing, Playing Football, Coaching Football, Flying Airplanes,Racing Boats, Chasing Women,Drinking too much, Acting on Stage, Doing Puppet Shows, Playing Santa Clause and many other things I have done, I just don't watch.
That allows me to see movies about Murder, Bank Robbers, traveling to the moon, etc.
One of the worst and best racing memories of my Racing Days, was the night at Henderson, a Redneck Drunk offered me $ 100.00 to take out Wendell (Worst) and I told him what he could do with his $100.00 ( Best).
