I agree with what you have said Dave.
Poor management or lack thereof have been the downfall of many racetracks.
One being right in my backyard. Middle Georgia Raceway. A former NASCAR Racetrack.
MGR was opened in 1966 and was successful for a few years and then with different promoters it ran off and on until 1984 when it finally closed it's doors.
It could have been another Bristol had it been managed right.
Opening a short track inside the Daytone Track isa great idea. Whether it came from Chitwood or from someone else in NASCAR it is good business. Who wouldn't want to race at "Daytona" ?
I also hate it for Volusia and New Smyrna but I imagine they will still have full fields if they schedule them right.
How many tracks have closed because of poor scheduling. Why have races at two tracks 30 miles apart on the same night? If one runs on Sat. night then schedule the other for Friday night or even Sunday afternoon. But NO. They want to run on the same night and try to outdraw the other. POOR MANAGEMENT.
There used to be a "creek" running under the third turn a Middle Georgia Raceway in the '60's. Not saying that I ever knew about the "water" from that "creek" but then again......maybe I qualify for the above mentioned group..... Not saying that I do mind you. Just something for thought.
I did that several times Jeff and got the same results. Only about half of the chat room.
I left the RR site completely and went to another site. Logged in and did a couple of things on that site. Logged out. Went back to RR and logged in and still the same thing.
Mine happened just as Bopper started his segment. My Chat Room people dropped to 14-15. I talked to Tiger Tom for a few minutes and we were the only ones posting. Then Devin and Dave came in and that's when we decided it was a transmission problem and not our PC's. It continued this way for the rest of the show. I heard Tim make a remark about a Post by PKL but saw nothing on my screen. It was as if the Chat Room had been divided into two different locations and we were hearing all of the show but only half of the Chat. ?????? Also the names of about half had been deleted. No Jeff, Tim, PKL....and others
Been there...done that with the hood pins. But it was the 3rd turn.
If your wife passed bologna sandwiches out of the window to the kids sitting among the tires, tools, jack, gas can, etc., etc., in the back of your pickup tow truck pulling your race car on the way to a race you may be a rodeo goat
I saw my first race in 1952 at age 16. This was at Palm Beach Speedway in West Palm Beach Florida. It was a 1/2 mile dirt/oil track. Very fast and with some of the best drivers in the country. Red Farmer, Bobby Johns, Al Keller, Frankie Schnieder, Bobby Malzahn, Banjo Matthews, Ralph Moody, Jack Choquette, and a slew of other well known talent. Later there was Bobby and Donnie Allison. This was a NASCAR Sanctioned track running Modified-Sportsman and Amateur Divisions. Also the Grand National tour ran there with all of the early NASCAR Stars. I feel in love with racing that first day and decided then and there that it was something that I had to do. My dream was realized in 1956 after Palm Beach had become a high banked asphalt 1/2 milevery fast track still running NASCAR and I ran my first race in the NASCAR Amateur Div. Palm Beach is my favorite track for more reasons than one. It is where I met Marilynn,my wife of 54+ years. Her father Bud Berry was a flagman, her grandfather, Walter Berry, was chief timer and her mother, Florene, ran a souvenier stand. Marilynn also wrote articles for a racing magazine and for the Palm Beach Post newspaper. Many good memories from Palm Beach---my favorite track.
As if I didn't know it. But I believe that I was speaking to Johnny. We are friends also. It was meant to be humorous anyway. I think that he understands that.
As Forrest Gump say's, "That's all I got to say about that."
