I saw on another website where someone else swears that a roadcourse was setup on base which later inspired the roadcourse being added at MMS. As a kid in the 50s, I recall the older config of the runways at AAFB - there were 4 shorter ones, only one of which remains and which was extended. Anyway, the annual Airshow was awesome! But it was nixed by the early 60s cause of the noise and sonic booms and stuff. There ought be photos somewhere of all of these events...by the way, the old Marine Speedway in St. Marys county was supposedly on or very near to Pax River NAS. Good luck trying to find anything on that one!
