Like most of you guys, I long for the good old days, but there are areas where we have made some progress. Track safety and driver extrication has improved somewhat since this photo was taken. It was at a northern Ohio track in the 50s, but it was pretty much the same all over back then...
That's some photo! Looks like the car held up pretty well considering and I'll bet the driver got out faster than the drivers of today could. He probably had to loosen the knot around the rope that held him in the seat . Check out the grooves cut in the tires.Pete
Billy, you reminded me of one that happened at the old Fairgrounds Motor Speedway in Louisville. Driver barrel rolled in the first turn and finished upside down. He was OK until he made the mistake of taking his helmet off BEFORE he unfastened his belt. Knocked himself out.
