This 1965 Ford Galaxie is the car that took rookie driver Dick Hutcherson to nine poles and record nine wins in the 1965 NASCAR Grand National Series. This was the first year of the more squared styling on the Galaxie, and we love the way it looks in race trim. Holman Moody prepped the car back in the day, and their signature components and lettering can be found all over it.Find it here on eBay in Sonoma, California, where the car is being displayed this weekend in the eBay Motors vendor area at the Save Mart 350 until the auction concludes on race day. The color scheme is an unusual one, but the contrasting white roof, numbers, and steel wheels give it a striking look. Kim Haynes Racetorations are credited with the restorations, and we believe that this was one of the cars on track last year in Monterey with the many other NASCAR entrants on hand. The interior features a wrapped stock steering wheel, as was common back then, as well as a custom padded and bolstered bucket seat. The recessed gauges and signature Holman Moody switch panel are exactly what so many of the clone cars shoot for. Here it is the real deal. In case you missed it on the hood, the engine is a 427 cubic inch FE side-oiler. It draws air from the cowl area and retains the classic FE coolant tank over the front cover.

Don't know anything about the car pictured being the real deal or not, but all the actual racing photos I have been able to find of the H&M cars of the time period do have door handles, like the Dick Hutcherson car below:

Certainly didn't mean to question anyone's knowledge by posting the actual racetrack photo I found of a Hutch H&M car coming out of the garage with door handles and would certainly defer to folks who know a lot more than me. Went to a few '65 events and do rememberdoor handles on 'the 65 H&M Fords I saw like the one he rolled at Richmond in '65... but, we'd see some things on the short track bodies that you didn't see on a speedway car and the only ones I saw in 65 were short track events that Hutch ran. I remember the first time I saw one of richard's cars with the door handle not there and how strange it seemed at the time. Saw this pic of what I guess is a Freddy replica Ford illustrating an article it appears by Dr. John Craft. Thanks.
@johnny-mallonee13 years ago hey guys i posted these photos for our enjoyment, not to start another war. When I find something old I usually share with everyone on R/R. If I find a clone and someone points it out Ya team----so no arguing on my stuff please. Im all for the betterment of Racers Reunion. I will debate any one but its all in fun,no harm-no foul . So now back to the subject at hand----West coast guys are just happy to have a look alike I guess but I thought it was interesting ---There are more but I dont want to start a riot ok!!!
