1963 Goldenstate 400 Dave MacDonald & Freddy Lorenzen
Dave MacDonald goes inside on lap 22 to take the lead from Freddy Lorenzen in the 1963 Golden State 400 at Riverside Raceway. MacDonald driving a Woods Brothers Ford Galaxie lost 3rd gear on lap 97 and ran the rest of the way in two gears. Dave had built a sizeable lead to this point but Darel Dieringer slowly reeled him in and took the lead for good on lap 119. Dieringer also led laps 77-79, Lorenzen was the only other driver to lead in this race and he finished 32nd.
