Promoters touted the appearance of Jim Hurtubise who had returned to racing after a gruesome wreck at Milwaukee in 1964
Any promoter worth his salt back in the day pitched the local angle. Don White, the winningest USAC stock car division driver, was from Keokuk Iowa. It made sense the management at Greenwood would tout his appearance.

Apparently the folks from the Lincoln Star in Nebraska didn't know the difference between sanctioning bodies for varying stock car series - or know how to read / type press-ready copy. I have to guess the USAC brass had to have slapped their foreheads in frustration. If Big Bill & his team in Daytona had seen this clipping, they likely would have exhaled their cigars and smirked.

Take a lap around this lost speedway that lasted only from 1963 through 1966.

Sounds like Goldie could have used some of Tiger Tom's old Lake Lloyd scuba gear!

Ive searched and found several ovals and most are walk paths this is the best road course from the past to date. Augusta has history but the track is next to a memory. Middle Ga Raceway has held up due to the persistance of old fans walking and the latest pruning up it got. Dirt tracks I have found are mostly memories with the exception of one in a field below McRae Ga its is still there,a little rough in the corners, but its plainly there. It was called Telfair County Speedway..Displaying GoogleEarth_Image.jpgDisplaying GoogleEarth_Image.jpg
