Tim Flock at Daytona 1958

Tim was the defending champion of the Convertible race in 1958. He started on the outside pole and led the first three laps before running into trouble in the North Turn. With the steering damaged, Tim was forced to retire from the race.

Was that 1957, or 1958? If it was 1958, why would he not use a 1958 Mercury? They had a much bigger engine, more power.
