Hello Harlow,True Cris Williams was a coe, owner with the first two cars in 1950-51. On the first car, number #50, their were five to be owners at $10.00 each. This was 1950, when it came time to put up the money only two had the money, Glenn Wood and Chris Williams. At $25.00 each Glenn said it just about broke him. Yes the car cost them $50.00, The number of the car #50, and the year was 1950.I know this is not the answer you are looking for on the first driver, I believe Eb Clifton drove this car #50 for Glenn and Chris at Morris speedway (Horse Paster Va) the first race.My information came from Glenn Wood, and Eb Clifton. Check out my pictures, I have some of this car#50 Keep in touch,Clyde

I have a question about the Wood Bros. One of my Church members is the widow to Robert (Handlebars) Walden, who drove in the 50's. She says that he drove for the Wood Bros, for a time. I have tried to find this in Nascar archives, but I cannot find any info on him driving for the Wood Bros. She speaks of Richard Petty used to come and help Robert on his cars from time to time in Level Cross. I don't know for sure, as she is aging and starting to slip a little now and then.If anyone has any info on this please let me know at LevelCrossClassics@gmail.com .What I am really looking for, are some pics from the 50's that might show Robert Walden's racecar. I am an adult model car builder and I would love to build her a replica model of one of her husbands cars, before she goes home to be with the Lord. Thanks,Pastor Ken SharpeFlowing River FellowshipLevel Cross, NC

I think they also overlook Marvin Panch and look straight at David Pearson.

It was Glen Wood himself. Their first car was number 50 because they paid $50.00 for it. He was voted most popular driver in 1959.
