Dale Jr Re-signing with Hendrick?December 4, 2010 by RacingWinFiled under: Dale Earnhardt JrToo Soon for Dale Earnhardt Jr to Re-sign with Hendrick.According to David Newton over at ESPN Rick Hendrick is already trying to re-sign Dale Earnhardt Jr to a contract extension, even though Earnhardt still has 2 years left on his current contract. Before Earnhardt signs anything Rick Hendrick needs to show him that he has the full support of Hendrick Motorsports. It looks like the move of putting Steve Letarte in as crew chief and moving the No. 88 team in with the No. 48 team was a prelude to get the contract signed.According to Newton Rick Hendrick would like to race with Dale Jr until one of them retires.Dale Jr needs to see some results before he commits to another 5 years with Hendrick Motorsports.Would you like to see Dale Jr race with Hendrick until he retires?

Re-sign that lucrative proxy racer. With the ninth consecutive Most Popular Driver award those souvenier sales rack up big dollars in a hurry. Whether he wins or not the dollars will roll in. The driver carries the same name of the guy who was a hero to so many fans and whose legacy will remain forever as that imbedded image of the black number 3 crashing into the turn four wall at Daytona and sliding down the track to rest in the grass is always present in the minds of all race fans. Junior will never be the hero his father was/is but he will always be Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and as such, he will always demand and receive the top dollar for everything he does. I'm sure his sponsor package alone equals those of the 48 and 24 combined. .

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

Well if I made you giggle then that means I have put a little humor in your day--isnt that one of the goals we strive for so much on a day to day basis???

Johnny, sometimes you make me giggle. If Junior did not sign with Hendrick, exactly where do you think he would go? What will not happen (Sorry Jimmy) is some sort of a happy blending of Junior into the Childress #3 car. No matter how much advertising mileage he gets out of one Nationwide race in that Wrangler #3 look-alike, Richard has made it quite clear that the #3 will be driven, and already is in the truck series, by his grandson, Austin Dillon.

Even though, as Tim points out, the name is the same, he is not his Daddy, and frankly, he's not much of a driver. Semi-good looks, thanks to a face-planing and a hair stylist, will only get him so far, and the glow is already beginning to wear off that facade. (Just try to imagine Dale having his pock marks erased by plastic surgery and having his hair styled. There is a visual that will keep one laughing all day) The "Posse" numbers are waning, but Rick must figure that he can squeeze a bit more out of that well before it runs dry. I can't dredge up in my mind another major team that would be willing to pay the price that Junior demands for doing nothing.

I've been told a time or three that I'm too hard on Junior...but I'm still waiting for him to prove me wrong. So far, the score there is PK - 12, Junior - 0. If Rick offers him a five-year contract, he'd be crazy not to sign it...in my humble opinion.

Tiger Woods said yesterday when asked would he like to get back to his winning days with his old swing. He said no I want to move ahead with a better swing. I believe with a lot of hard work Jr can be better then he was. He needs to get back to work and make his father and fans proud no matter who he drives for. I like him and hope the best for him. Would not like to be him! W

Dale is a very talented driver who already has more total wins than most. He is deemed talented by many of his peers. My answer (from the peanut gallery)? Yes, for now with Rick Hendrick..If not Hendrick..RCR with any friggin' # on the car.
If driving race cars ('Cup level),was easy..or playin' *golf (PGA level), was easy..everyone would do it....
(* Tiger..greatest ever..like it or not)..

Go Dale..... (and for what it's worth), *We love ya, and think your damned good.......

AMEN Wally...Well said. Also AMEN to the talent. Look at the results of other drivers too...even the Hendrick team other than the #48. Nobody is setting the woods on fire.

Not that it was asked for but in my opinion if you have someone wanting your talent for any reason take it. I am not a JR fan but here in Ga that is all you hear about. When he goes on track even for pracitce the stands erupt. Once he goes back in the pits to "tweak" his car the grandstands go silent. It is wild how that happens. I know that also happens in Dega. Somehow someway we need to make sure this sport never fades into extinsion and if that means Jr hanging around in any car by any owner then that is what needs to happen.

Wally, I disagree about Tiger Woods being the greatest ever. Firstly he has yet to pass Jack for the most Majors and secondly he will never be the greatest after his wife wacked him with his own 9 iron.

Based on what Jr himself said, he would race the #3 car for Childress before he retired, so that means he'll finish his career with RCR, even if it's for just one race. The other thing that goes along with the crew changes at Hendrick is that both Jr and Jeff Gordon were put on notice that if they didn't improve next season they'd best start looking for a ride elsewhere. Hendrick can use the non-performance clause in their contracts to dump them, no questions asked. So even with a contract extension or new contract, Hendrick has the option to still dump Jr if he doesn't improve next season.

Thank you Wally -- I have always liked to spin a yarn and sometimes it helps to parlay the correct wording into the correct fictional way to entice people to think what they are believing is not as it is wrote but rather what they think they read as correct to the fact of!!

I think Larry McReynolds nailed it in a column a few weeks back when he noted that Dale Jr. is not very good at giving feedback about the handling of the new (COT). That would explain why he frequently starts out OK and slips back. Rarely do you see his car improve in performance during a race. I remember when the switch was made from bias ply to radial tires. A lot of good drivers went from running at the front to running midpack. Talent, or lack thereof as shown by Danica Patrick, is not as big a factor as marketingin today's racing. Your are essentially running spec cars in most racing series (certainly in NASCAAR and the IRL) so the difference in the driver's ability is diminished. Junior is a marketable cash cow so Hendricks wants him to help support his championship contenders. It is still Jr's best chance to be in the best equipment .

I just want to see him a competitve car. I don't see Letarte doing that. Put him back with Pop's. Someone he respects and will tell him like it is.

I would love to see all Drivers and Teams competitive. If that means resigning and changing out crew members crew cheifs whatever it needs to happen. When I first started watching in 95 you had your dominating teams.. 3 and 24 were it. However any given week you could have a surprise winner. Now it is not quite like that.

I think that the resigning of Jr would be a great thing however there will be some other dominoes that need to fall to bring competition back.

No, I really think Jr. would be a better fit at RCR but thats my opinion. I love Dale dearly, but I think this is the year he has to re-assure all that he is a winner. And I agree with Johnny Mallonee, put him back with Pop's which was a winning combination.
