are you gutsey enough to drive this ?

Stock Car Racing History

Johnny, I found this roadster race at the old Motor City Speedway in Detroit. The track was built as a 1/2 mile dirt in 1932 but was redone to 1/4 mile dirt track in 1936. Could you imagine trying to control one of these on a half mile??? This picture was when it was a quarter mile.

Stock Car Racing History

Nope!!! For anyone who is even thinking about saying yes, you might want to check out Jack Goodwin's fan page on Racers Reunion and check out the #15 Ed Beste roadster. Then scroll down and read about a accident Jack had driving one of these at Jackson Motor Speedway in 1953. The "roll cage" if that's what one would call it looks like black pipe with elbow fittings that would collapse under any kind of pressure. Great picture, Johnny.Pete

Look what followed me home from the track last night.

Jerry, my vote would be the 429 SCJ engine. Forget the 351 Windsor. Hey, remember a while back I commented about you using the 396 Ford in a Pearson model? You mentioned another engine that was used also to keep the weight down. It was a 370 something. Do you remember what the CI was? You got some great pieces, Jerry.Pete

Jerry, what a great piece. 351 or 429????. There is some great history on how the Mercury Cyclone Spoiler was homolagated for Nascar. Not exactly "legal".

W E L L ???? Was Pheonix exciting enough for you??

Current NASCAR

It was just too late, Johnny. Didn't you find that tree seed or whatever flew into the path of Mickelson's putt causing him to miss rare and exciting? Heck, that was almost as rare as Ford winning a Cup race in the next few years. I've given up on Jack winning much even if they get the new version of the Ford racing engine. I'm more optimistic with the Petty team right now. Roush just can't put the "puck in the net" like we say in hockey country. I'm glad Ryan won on Saturday night even though it was basically a Hendrick. Just getting sick of Johnson every week.Pete

Trivia

Barbara, we're having the same problem on the open wheel side. I love the Supermodifieds and George Oldnall has a nice fan page set up, but the site has little activity. On the subject of Indy Car on Open Wheel RR, Robbie and I had some good discussions and John Potts and I had a great one going with the old Novi's that raced at Indianapolis in the 50's and 60's. The interest is there, but members need to start discussions and forums to keep sites active. I'm as guilty as anybody for not checking in to these other RR sites, but I'll try harder.Pete

Trivia

Johnny, I like just about all racing. I grew up watching late models, stock cars, supermodifieds, Champ cars, snowmobiles, two ants running up an ant hill...you name it. I got hooked on TranAm racing in the late 60's and followed that until the late 90's. Didn't watch too much dirt racing, but enjoy sprints and WoO. I belong to almost all the Sites Jeff has on RR and enjoy all of them.Pete

Here is a Racetrack I used to operate about 50 years ago.

We used to have a lot of fun at the track...until Cox came out with the La Cucarocha. Man that thing was fast!! I couldn't afford one. I still have my 100 foot 1/32 Revell set, but the cars are long gone and the transformer and controllers are shot. Boy, what fun I had.Pete

Billy and Barbara Scott.

Billy and Barbara, I really enjoyed Billy's interview last night about his racing career. I enjoyed the entire show especially Bobby's Ghost Track segment which I always look forward to. Great Job on that Bobby!! Also a big thank you for what Dustin does with RR and RR radio. Of course, thanks to Jeff, Tim, Jack and Cody (we missed you) for all they do for RR. The interview with Butch was off the charts!! Just wind him up and let him go.:-))Pete in Michigan
