Where are they today??

General

Al Loquasto ran Indy Car for several years and made the Indy 500 a couple of times. I remember him as a mid pack car and before that I believe he ran some USAC Sprint cars. I would like to know how he hooked up with D.K and drove stock cars for a couple of years. Usually the more successful drivers made the cross over. Great discussion, Robert.

My Dad was a fan of Al's, not for being super fast and winning lots of races, but loved the the sound of saying Al Loquasto.

Bill Auman ,Legendary Cylinder Head man passed away

General

Jim, thanks for your discussion on Bill Auman. I am always interested in the engine guys especially at Holman-Moody, they are simply the best. If you have any pictures of Bill working at H-M, please put them here. I would like to know more about him. Thanks.

Pete

Bill Auman ,Legendary Cylinder Head man passed away

General

Dave, I thought there was an engine builder at H-M named Bob Auman, but I could be wrong on the first name. I'm wondering too if there were 2 different Auman's because the Cylinder Head and Engine assembly were probably separate departments. I'm sure Jim can set this straight for us.

is this one for real or not???

Stock Car Racing History

Jim, if you're referring to the stats that I used in my reply, please note it referred to the season and team. No where did I refer to this car except I thought it was a nice restoration and Johnny or whoever bought it would take it out and enjoy it. I just posted my memories of those great seasons of the Pearson /Hutcherson years at Holman-Moody. Car can be a replica or real, it's still cool to talk about it. It was my favorite time in Grand National racing.

Jim Reep Jr said:
this car came out of Wendell Scott's "back of the shop junkyard." Who knows where it came from after Haynes had a hold of it . . Pearson bought it @ a car show & sold it . It wound up in the California Vintage Car Club . Its a replica. Dr. Craft could tell you the history, but no one on here cares about that, so long as it looks like it was real once. Stats on this car would be an entire world away from the real thoroughbred. I wonder if Gilder ran into Haynes @ Carolina last night? No matter, what difference would the truth make on here ?

Stock Car Racing History

Great restoration from what I can see. 1968 and 1969 were some of my favorite Pearson/Hutcherson/Wilson/Holman-Moody memories and they certainly earned the title Champions. 1968 this team won 16 races, 36 top 5's and 12 poles in 48 races. Waddell Wilson was particularly fond of the duel carbed 427 engine and loved the way it performed. Another engine that played a huge role in winning the championship was the 396 Ford that was also run on short tracks. This team had no weakness and the new owner will hopefully get it out and race it, not just let it sit. I know if johnny had it, it would race!!

Dick Hutcherson

Stock Car Racing History

Hutch, there are quite a few pictures here on Racers Reunion of the blue and gold #17. Search the photo section under David Pearson. My pride and joy is a print done by John Bach in 1969 for Holman Moody that is 16X20. It's a color cutaway of the 1969 Ford Torino Talledega that is beautifully done (I've seen some pictures that show the cutaway with parts and pieces labeled...this one doesn't have that). I had it signed by David in 1983 and always hoped to get your Dad to sign it too. Unfortunately our paths never crossed and it's too late now. I found my print at a swap meet in 1980 in Dearborn Mi. and paid $7.00 for it and if I see another one I'll get it to you. I don't know if someone could copy this because it is Copyrighted by Holman Moody. If I can get it copied with great quality, I'll send it to you if you don't already have one. Like I said, it's beautiful and very detailed for a drawing. if I find the article where your Dad shut off the car I'll let you know. One thing I remember is Dick couldn't even breathe when he stuck his head through the window. It's here somewhere.lol

Dick Hutcherson

Stock Car Racing History

Hi Hutch, first welcome to racers reunion. I don't remember too much about your Dad's driving career, but my all time favorite car was David Pearsons #17 Holman Moody Ford. Your Dad was the crew chief on that car for both championships ('68 and '69) and I remember a story one time at a race where it was so hot Dick Hutcherson poked his head in Pearsons car during a pit stop and he could'nt breathe. He asked David where he was and David said somewhere in Carolina and it's really hot. Your Dad hit the switch and told David to get out of the car, day's done. He was General manager I think of Holman Moody before he started building cars as Hutcherson-Pagen. He was a great chassis builder, crew chief and driver. You must be very proud.

WHO IS THE TOUGHEST KID ON PIT ROAD

Stock Car Racing History

Johnny, I'd take the Busch boys out because they start a lot and then run their mouths. I know Tony Raines came out of the ASA and those boys can fight. Brad Keselowski came from a rough and tumble bunch (Dad Bob and Uncle Ron) and can hold his own too. Other than that I like your list.

A good reason why I'm thankful for Racers Reunion.

General

I'm not big on bothering people, but if I recognize someone I'll at least make eye contact and wave or say hi as long as they're not preoccupied with something (I never bother anyone at a restaurant). If people totally ignored David or didn't recognize him, that's sad. Even if everyone see's him on a regular basis or is comfortable around David, at least say hi.

Should Richard Childress Be Punished for Punching Kyle Busch?

Current NASCAR

Like many of you, I grew up watching bullring racing and there was never a question of "if" there was going to be a fight, but "who" after a feature. It's the way it was. I remember Bobby Allison getting clobbered by Tom Maier because Bobby kept running Tom up the track during the race. Tommy didn't like it, it was settled right in the pits after the race. I would like to see Richard Childress get an award, not fined.
