New Contender for Cup

General

Yes, Tony can win and he may just pull off the Jimmie Johnson Chase Magic this year. If I were betting, however, I would go with Jeff Gordon.

Seems very clear to me. Menard took a dive.

General

There are many times on the Tuesday night Goat Rodeo when there is private chatter between Jeff Gilder and the Legend. It is well known that NASCAR, nor any other person or entity monitors that chatter. I have never been told to intention bring out a caution flag BUT I have been told, with quite a bit of regularity to "MUTE YOUR MIC". Now, at last, that is public knowledge. So, spread the word far and wide, get it in the press and turn over the tapes to The Speed Channel.

Remembering Jimmy Pardue and the 1964 season

General

Losing any driver is tragic. To lose someone like Jimmy in 1964 was a deep tragedy for those who knew him. If he had not been driving a Plymouth I may never have gotten to meet him several times during that season but when I had the opportunity I would always talk with him and he would always have time to talk. One note that has never really been mentioned is that the week AFTER Jimmy lost his life, Richard Petty blew a tire in almost the same spot in the National 400 on the last lap and hit almost the exact spot Jimmy had hit and gone through the rail. One can only think that had not Jimmy gone through that rail the week before, Charlotte would not have reinforced the posts and railing. It seems to me Jimmy Pardue never received the credit he should have for all his accomplishments. Most of all, he was one fine gentleman.

Thanks to Harvey Tollison and AIRPS for a wonderful weekend

General

Just a little note from me to thank Harvey and all the ladies and gentlemen involved with the Augusta International Raceway Preservation Society organization for a wonderful Friday Night
Banquet for the Hall of Fame induction. Beautiful ceremony and the food was awesome. I think everyone had a great time. Unbelieveable to see Sam Sommers again after all these years.

Today, Saturday, was a special celebration for Veterans and was beautifully conducted. We great to see so many folks out to celebrate our Veterans and to participate in the history of Augusta Interational Raceway. Got sort of nostaglic walking down the pit road for the old raod course. I actually parked my van there and as I walked toward the auditorium it was almost as though I could see Fireball Roberts and Joe Weatherly pitting ahead of me.

No matter how many of these events I attend, at Columbia, Occonneechee, Middle Georgia, Mooresville, or wherever else the future may lead, it always brings a memory of some kind to my heart and my mind. Every event introduces me to new people, many times young folks who have a real interest in the history of the sport and that always makes my heart pump a little faster. There is hope that the past will be remembered, celebrated and embraced by a new generations of fans.

Tim

Did someone have a convient flat late in the Richmond race to tighten up the field ???

General

I did see the race, every lap of it. I would hate to try to venture a guess on that one. I note the spin occurred where there would be little or no damage to the car. As competitive as the sport is, I still cannot imagine a man as honorable as I believe Richard Childress to be making even that suggestion.
