Can't wait Mr. Streeter! Listening to your stories is better than anything on tv anyway. Well, I do sort of like Jeopardy, but I would still choose you over that.

Cousin Carl Edwards, you tell me

General

After watching the Nationwide race tonight, I will NOT, at this time, comment on the Aflac Ducker. I would, however, like to hear from all of you, and especially the duck feather fans about the end of that race.

I await comments.

THE RACERS PRAYER

General

I do remember Bill and I do remember hearing him pray the prayer. I had forgotten it, stored away in the dusty cobwebs of an old man's brain. Thank you for bringing it back!

Who'd a Thunk?

General

We need to get Kelley Earnhardt in our group for sure. That would be an awesome addition to RR and would certainly enhance her pursuit of the history of the sport. I have a great deal of respect for Kelley Earnhardt.Tim

The Official Ambassador of Racers Reunion

Vintage Oval and Road Course Racing

Johnny, you really nailed it with this one! Jimmy Johnson is A-1, A-OK as the space program used to say. I enjoy every minute I ever spend around Jimmy or just talking with him on the phone. Don't come much better than Jimmy (with a "y") Johnson. He is worth far more than Four Consecutive Championships. He's a champ 24/7/365.Tim

COMMUNITY: OUR HOME

General

Nicely written and ideally a good statement of the way things are, or at least should be in a "perfect" world. As Pete says, "you get out of it what you put into it". Many of us put a great deal into Racers Reunion because it means so much to us. It is out community. I know I have many good friends here and I am fortunate enough to have been able to speak with many of them and meet several of them. There is nothing like talking racing with those who love it as much as you do.So,TonyFar, I hope you'll be active here and make more contributions and expect to develope some really great friendships. Thanks for writing.Tim

Sausage, Chicken and history

General

Today, July 12, 2010, I had the distinct honor and pleasure to be invited to lunch by one Jim Streeter, an almost 84 year old member of Racers Reunion and a gentleman who appeared on Racin' through History last Tuesday evening in the "Meet a Member" segment. The food was good, the tea was just as I like it, and the company was outstanding. We talked of racing, football (USC) ,theater (because our waiter performs in local theater productions), buying a new computer (as if I'm an expert) but mostly it was an extraordinary experience for me to sit across the table from Jim Streeter as he relayed stories of personal experience from the earliest days of stock car racing, long before there was even a NASCAR. Jim has stories that will make you laugh until you can't sit up straight (the promoter running with the purse) to stories that touch the heart of drivers long ago gone and who are remembered only by family and maybe a few fans.

Jim Streeter is a walking history book of stock car racing. As he himself states, his physical health is not that great, but that mind is as sharp as the edge of the splitter that Kyle Busch uses to cut down left rear tires of other drivers!!!! Jim is really a pleasure to share time with.

We are working on getting Jim as a featured guest on the Tuesday night radio show very soon so all of you reading this make a list of questions you would like Jim to answer about the history of the sport. I can almost guarantee you he can answer anything about the early days. Oh, and I know for a fact that he will have a new supercharged computer at his disposal by the end of the week.

Thanks, Jim Streeter, for a great lunch and for sharing all the time with me today. It was an honor and privilege to be in your company.

Tim

Where were the fans

General

I do believe that Racers Reunion has a real fan in Johnny Mallonee. And further news is that Racers Reunion is a ral from of Johnny Mallonee. Funny how that works. I'm The Legend, and I approve this message althought I did NOT pay for it.Tim

Where were the fans

General

Harvey, this is something I have been noticing all season. Daytona on July 3rd looked pretty good until you consider the back straight grandstands weren't even open. The economy seems to be front and center in all such conversations, but it must be more than that. We'll just have to wait. I was amazed, however, with the number of race fans within easy driving distance of "Chicagoland" that there weren't more there.Tim
