Don't tell Bobby Sellers

Administrative

I actually got to do some hot laps around The Historic Columbia Speedway today in the 1961 Rex White number 4 Chevrolet. Thank you Jimmy. That was awesome. Thanks Jeffery for helping me get out.

Trivia

I like them all Johnny. But I will tell you this: Even with my less than perfect financial situation these days, I wouldn't take a million dollars for having learned to race on dirt tracks. I have a little friend in Canada who tells me every night, "dirt is for racing, asphalt is for getting there". There is something to be said about that for sure.Looking forward to seeing you next week when we can bench race across the table!!!God bless and stay safe.Tim

Here is a Racetrack I used to operate about 50 years ago.

General

Jim,I used to race slot cars on a track like that out on Beltline Boulevard and then over in Cayce back in the good old days. A guy names "Bunny" Graham operated it. They called him "Bunny" because of his huge ears. He also had a HUGE heart. He really was good to all us kids. Thanks for sharing the picture. Brought back some really great memories.Tim

Are things turning around??? SoBo had full stands.

Local and Regional Short Track Racing

I am pulling for the short tracks, so go South Boston. But Cornelius has a very valid point. While I love the racing action provided on the short tracks., dragging it on and on gets tiresome.

Rex White 1961 Chevrolet in showroom of Love Chevrolet

General

Today, Monday, April 5, 2010, the "real" Jimmy Johnson of Racers Reunion delivered the 1961 Chevrolet number 4 race car to Love Chevrolet located at 1255 Knox Abbott Drive in Cayce, SC. The car will be there through at least Thursday, April 8th. Also in the showroom is a fully restored. beautiful red 1958 Chevrolet Impala.

The Rex White car, the 1961, is the type car the defending Grand National Champion from 1960, Rex White was campaigning when Love Chevrolet opened its doors there on Knox Abbott Drive. That same year, 1961, Ned Jarrett, driving another 1961 Chevrolet, would win the championship in NASCAR's top division.

So, 1961, was a big year for Chevrolet and was certainly a big year for the central Midlands of South Carolina as Love Chevrolet opened its doors to become the biggest and best Chevrolet dealership anywhere around. Love Chevrolet is deeply involved in communitiy projects and is the title sponsor for The Second Annual Love Chevrolet Columbia Speedway Racers Reunion. Love started with Racers Reunion with the first such event last year and has remained as title sponsor.

So, go by Love Chevrolet on Knox Abbott Drive and check out the number 4 Chevrolet. Beautiful race car. If you carefully just above the driver's door, you'll see where Rex autographed the car.

Hey--- How about running Fuel Injection in the Cup Cars

Current NASCAR

Johnny, I simply don't know. I love the fact that Nationwide is going to what will "appear" to be stock bodied cars but the problem here is that the Chevy Camaro can't run because it does not have the "C" pillar. I didn't think the Mustang and Challenger did either, but that's what I'm told by someone in the know on NASCAR rules. The other way I heard it was that Chevy didn't want to race the Camaro because they didn't want to have to build so many and sell them because that would take away some of the "uniqueness" of the car. Just more b.s. from whichever side you listen to. Carburators, fuel injection, square wheels, whatever, is not going to bring the real fans back to the sport. It is going to take someone in NASCAR willing to admit that many of the fans they draw now are the locals from the area where the track is located who want something to do on a Sunday afernoon . Nothing more. Can true fans NOT know who Lee Petty was? Fireball Roberts? Would a true fan listen to a Kentucky idiot now living in Tennessee selling Toyotas talk about the NASCAR history began in 1980?Truck racing is the best from what I've seen this year, followed by Nationwide and then Cup. But I still go back to that ARCA race at The Rock last October. That was the best racing I had seen since 1976. Oh, sorry, 1976 was BEFORE NASCAR history started.I keep hoping for improvement. Maybe someday. But Johnny, like you always say........"memories". As long as I have those and some dvds of the 1950s and 60s racing, I will survive.Tim

Ways to Cut Cost in the Cup Series

Current NASCAR

The last sentence, rightly typed in all caps, is the crux of the matter. Way to state it Kyle!

Open Air at Bristol

Current NASCAR

We were out of town for a funeral of Ann's cousin so I didn't see any of it. It is very alarming when there are empty seats at Bristol. That is more than the tanked economy. This is very scary to someone who does love the sport and doesn't want it going down the tubes. I'm fresh out of suggestions because anything I would suggest would come from the perspective of one who believes as we all seem to here on Racers Reunion and those beliefs are NOT what NASCAR wants to hear.Tim
