Chime in please: Kyle Busch/Elliott Sadler

General

Elliott Sadler was in the right. Sadler showed alot of class in his interview. Kyle Busch being swormed on his long walk to his hauler like a crybaby was another classic Kyle Busch. Then for Kyleto take a shot at Kevin Harvick's racing organization in the interview even though Sadler was not racing for Harvick that night was laughable. He could not get anything right at all. He thought Sadler was trying to dump him. Then Kyle retaliated back and in the end it hurt both of them. Again, as I have said it before and I will say it again, why in the world is Kyle willing to waste his time and equipmentin the Nationwide Series and Truck Series? He could be a Championship contender in the Cup Series if he stopped doing stupid things like this. Just a classless punk. I guess Childress beating him up and losing his licenseis not enough for him to wise up.

Debris Caution is thrown

General

Man, this is a bad reputation to have as a truck driver. "Oh yeah he took down the flagstand at Pocono." Look closely, can still see the old Winston Cup logo behind part of the sign

What Racing Souvenir(s) do you treasure the most?

General

Probably my most prized is an autographed Dale Earnhardt Maxx card. I sent it to the DEI shop for Dale Earnhardt to sign. I wrote a nice letter telling him he was my favorite, that I enjoyed watching him race and congratulated him winning the Daytona 500. The last sentence in the letter I said, "My only request is that you please sign this card and I do not care how long it takes. I know you got things to do. Just please send it back signed."I sent that card sometime back in 1998.

A year later while I was in college I got a call from my Mom. "You got something from North Carolina." Sure enough it was the self addressed stamped envelop I had sent and wouldn't you know the price of stamps went up and the Intimadator was even nice enough to chip in the $.02. Opened it up and it was my card signed. I never got to actually meet Dale but that little interaction I had through the mail was memorable as is the signed card. Took me a year to get. Thats why when I try to get driver autographs I am as patient as can be. I see people get impatient at the track and I tell them, "you think thats long for an autograph, try a year"

Athletes?? Some say Drivers--- and pit crews are woosies

Trivia

Well considering the comforts of a stock car are not like your own car. There is no AC. They drive 500 miles in a car very fast. In some cases they are exposed to large amounts of G Forces. Imagine racing around Bristol and having to withstand the 36 degrees of banking on your own body for 500 miles for 3 or 4 hours. I rode around Sebring once in a race car and it was only a couple laps but I could feel it in my whole body the intense g forces. Also imagine the repetitive shifting you must do on a road course. I have heard stories that it can wear your hand out without proper gloves. Least today they have power steering. But in the old days, I cannot imagine driving the old cars without power steering. One thing I noticed was how big the steering wheels were and the amount of electrical tape on the steering wheels of some of the cars at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. I can imagine a big guy like AJ Foyt, Junior Johnson or David Pearson wrestling the steering wheel of these cars.

Cayuga County Fairgrounds Speedway Closes.

General

http://blog.syracuse.com/motorsports/2011/07/new_cayuga_county_speedway_closes_its_gates.html I used to attend this track weekly and ever since WRG bought out DIRT Motorsports things have gone downhill. This is unfortunate. A promoter allowed for the Sportsman modified class to run cheaper tires to increase car counts at his track. He had only 11 cars and when he allowed them to run American Racer tires his car count increases. WRG tells him to go back to Hoosiers, drop the Sportsmans or close the track. He decided to close the track. This is what tracks are having to deal with. They want to do anything to increase car counts but a sanctioning body like WRG (which owns World of Outlaws Late Models, DIRT Modifieds and World of Outlaw Sprint cars) will not allow them to make certain cost cutting measures for those competing. This was a support class mind you too. I have been following this drama in my old area where I used to live. Dirt modified racing is split between DIRT sanctioned and Race of Champions. This is a sad day. Cayuga County Fairgrounds Speedway was the flagship of DIRT and to see it in this kind of state is upsetting.

THE MOUTH PIECE

Stock Car Racing History

DW always comes across as a know it all. Kinda similar to Sam Posey. Those two both think alike.

How Did Racers Survive Outside the South?

General

Ah yes Wegmans. Being born and raised in Upstate NY it is one of the greatest Supermarkets. So great that Alec Baldwin does commercials for them. His Mother even commented that when she moved to Hollywood she missed Wegmans. I miss their sub sandwiches. Since moving to Florida I have missed alot of little things like that.

Those "white hots" or "Coneys" as I call them were great. Hoffmans and Zweigles make some great hot dogs where I used to live. Hoffmans were my absolute favorites. Go to the Oswego Speedway and the smell of them on the grill was intoxicating. Something about getting a Hoffman at the Oswego Speedway tasted like no other. I hear the secret to good Hoffman Hot dogs like at the track is peanut oil on the frying pan. Just a little. When my parents visit me they bring some Hoffman Hot Dogs down.

When I went to North Wilkesboro last year for the October Pro Cup Race they did make hot dogs like you described. I ordered two of them thinking it would be plain but to my surprise to find chili, cole slaw and other stuff on it. It was not bad. Wash that down with an ice cold Sundrop and I was sold. I never had Sundrop and was aware that it used to be only found in certain markets. When I was in NC, I brought some 12 packs of that and Cheerwine back to Florida. Course now Sundrop has gone national. But not Cheerwine. I can see how some grow attached to stuff like that in the South.

Salt Potatos are another thing I cannot find here in Florida. These little tiny potatoes are another Upstate NY staple. Having that, Grandma Brown Baked Beans and Hoffman hot dogs is your typical Upstate NY cookout food.

One of my other favorites are Spiedies. Its marinated pieces chicken, beef, pork or lamb grilled on a skewer and served up on a hoggie roll. I make them sometimes because Sweet Bay Supermarket actually sells the Marinade to make it.

Since moving to Florida I remember seeing the Kenny Wallace Duke's Mayonnaise car and saw a jar of it at Publix one day. Through the use of NASCAR sponsoring a car I never would have known about it. I tried it. I am sold. Everytime I make a turkey sandwich I put alot of that stuff on it. Nothing more creamier then that!!
